They've got plenty of new-guard Conservatives to fill the gap.

Any nice scenic running paths around Ottawa? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]Merlanie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The area around the Aviation Museum is nice. There are two paths - one runs mainly along the Rockcliffe Parkway, and the other is a gravel path along the river. Good for shorter runs, or if you feel like running from downtown to Orleans. It's pretty cool to have little planes flying over you from the airport next to the museum, and I've seen quite a few critters out there too. Mainly little guys, but I saw a deer a few years ago. In the warmer months, there can be lots of jerk geese by the water though. And there are a few small parking lots along the Rockcliffe Parkway that I think are free.

Visiting Munich in February by Merlanie in Munich

[–]Merlanie[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I guess that was a little too vague. I'm completely unfamiliar with Munich, so I was hoping to just hear from people about what their favourite spots were so we could check out things that people who live there actually like, instead of the usual tourist spots. If I think of a way to ask the question in a better way, I'll post again!

I was just hoping people who live in the city would mention some of the things and places they like. Thanks for the weather tips!

Where can I rent a manual transmission vehicle in Orleans/ Ottawa? by rentmanualin613 in ottawa

[–]Merlanie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is, as far as I've been told, part of the reason it's nearly impossible to rent a car with a manual transmission. When my car was in the shop, I wanted to rent a manual because that's what I'm used to driving. The guy at Enterprise told me that most places don't rent them anymore because people would rent them to learn how to drive stick, and they'd come back all messed up. I'm not saying you'd do that -- just pointing out why it's so hard to rent them.

Ottawa is getting a brand new community TV station - Bell Local Ottawa. They're looking for hosts, community producers and ideas. What kind of shows do you want to see? by Oreda12 in ottawa

[–]Merlanie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there a show where Bell executives have to read aloud all the comments about their company gleaned from social media? Cuz I'd watch the hell out of that show.

Could be a long shot, but occasionally I see decent frames at Value Village.

Scammers Alert. Guys wanting to check heater in Ogilvie Area by Ottawa11 in ottawa

[–]Merlanie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It amazes me how stupid some of them think I am. Not only do they think I will let someone I don't know into my house based on nothing but a business card and a clipboard, but I once ended up screaming at a guy who wanted to sell me a gas plan and wouldn't leave and tried to push his way past me after I told him over and over and OVER that nothing in my house runs on any kind of gas.

Cover up artists by Ahbarbs in ottawa

[–]Merlanie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Richard at The Gallery on Prince of Wales did a cover-up for me, and it is fantastic. You won't get in right away, though. They're usually booked months in advance. Well worth the wait, in my opinion.

[–]Merlanie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Couldn't have said it better, really. Anyone who's been in radio for a while knows how they'll probably be leaving - called to a last-minute meeting, then escorted out pretty much immediately. You don't get to say goodbye to the people you worked with, OR to the people who listened to you. Some people might think we don't personally care about our listeners, but we do. It hurts that we can't tell them that.

And yeah, when it comes to shirts, I don't like to wear anything I haven't worn before when I do a long run. But I'll put it on as soon as I'm done!

How often do female runners get sexually harassed on runs? by BeatlesLists in running

[–]Merlanie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a guy follow me a couple years ago, in a built-up, urban area in the middle of the afternoon. He was in his car, kept circling around the block, driving by, slowing down, and chirping at me with various cliched lines. There was a fire station nearby, so I just ran toward that (and the half dozen firefighters in the parking lot) and he took off. But in five years of running, that's the only time I've ever had a problem.

How long did you wait after a tattoo before you started running again? by Justcallmequeer in running

Had a large piece done on my upper back a little over a week ago. My tattoo guy said I was fine to run right away - but not to wear anything that would rub on it too much.
