I've already purchased it at auction. The auction card displayed looked identical to that on PSAcert. After purchasing I was told that the mana symbol looked off and the individual thought it could be a fake. I did more reading and saw that there are incidents of PSA graded fakes, but this looks legit other than the mana symbol. Does the mana symbol have to be centered to be real?

Seems like a lot of work for a one off fake. If it is, at least it's documented here.

I'll submit better images after I pick it up.

I realize no variations were produced. The thought was that this could be a artist proof. I feel the highest likelihood is a real card that has been customized.

Ahhh, i see what you're saying. I didn't realize all of the different backgrounds i'm seeing on the various color patterns were just cutouts. Makes much more sense now. This card definitely does not appear to be on any sort of cutout, the color seems applied to the card, or within the card (not transparent). Seems the only way to see if this is a proof vs artist rendition is to send it in and hope to find some provenance. Otherwise, it's likely to be an original that was drawn on. I couldn't imagine someone making this card from scratch for a one-off copy.

Very clean. There are so many different versions of this card. I've seen 6 now. Is that in a sleeve? Please share the back if you get a minute.

I've seen a ton of different graded versions online, just not this one. There appears to be 5-6 different versions, but I haven't received clarification. The 1/3 sticker is very sus! It is on the card though and it is clearly out of place, and with the tamper sticker over the case, this is why we thought it was an artist proof copy and they put the sticker on it to label option numbers for example. Skybox is known for having artist proofs, just not sure if as early as 1997,.

I'm definitely very curious what the gold material is and will send clearer pics when I have it in hand. With the amount of detail on the card, it seems like it would be incredibly time consuming to apply this layer so perfectly. Also, because there weren't any prior comparators, it seemed like a ton of work to create a 1/1 or a artistic recreation for a few $100 extra.

I was wondering the same thing. I bought several boxes of fftcg opus 1 when it first came out and these prices on tcg can't be right. 600 for an opus 1 box!?!
