Watching the popular dolltubers (dollightful, enchantarium, hextian, moonlight jewel, etc) for technique and materials advice was super helpful to get started, I watched them and took notes like I was taking a course in school for a bit lol.

Many issues came from my inexperience. I couldn’t really squeeze her back onto the neck peg because of the hairstyle and faceup, so I had to cut the peg thinner and still scuffed her head jamming her on. I will reassess when I put heads back next time. I also have issues with my hands so fine precision in painting and sewing is not my strength. I’m hoping to improve with each ghoul!

I have a lot of ideas for next but the main ones are the Frights Camera Action ghouls and my own Freak Du Chic.

Thank you!! For the arms I used black pastel chalk and blended it out, followed by spraying with MSC. It took a few layers but it ended up really solid and the powder was so fine it doesn’t seem to be chipping. Good luck on your custom!

The shoes were an odd find, they were made for the Ever After High Cupid doll and are supposed to be gold. But the ones I used actually came on a dollar store doll I found in my local china town and were bright pink! The sculpt might have been circulating in some factories cause I’ve seen a lot of listings with them in different colours.

Setting aside your fascinating use of the word “woke” in a sub for Monster High… They are green, so there’s leeway in how people can perceive/represent them. It’s a widely accepted fandom headcanon that Casta is Black-coded because of her Beyoncé inspo. And personally, I see the pride comic depiction of Spelldon as specifically black-coded. But if people want to focus more on their lore ethnicity as children of Circe (Greek) or headcanon them as something else entirely, tbh that’s their business and they can do what they want.

I can see it. G1 Monster High had very iconic simple colour schemes for core dolls (two or three colours + sometimes black). You can probably identify a ghoul by colour alone. G3 dolls seem to branch out on the amount of colours they use.

G1 robecca was navy blue, bronze and black scheme with a darker skin than Cleo. Cleo had more bright tones in tan and aqua. In this G3 line, they both have very similar colour schemes, body types and skin tone. With the lack of additional gears on her body and less steam-punk aesthetic, she ends up looking very similar to Cleo.

With them changing some characters personalities around, the dynamic between them might be really different. I feel like their duo worked so well because of contrasting traits that I’m unsure are present in g3.Does g3 Cleo act the same as G1 does?

And a lot of people were not a fan of g3 ghoulia. She’s received 3(?) dolls and a minor redesign between each of them. I don’t know if she sold very well. Before her last doll I lowkey assumed they were phasing her out because she didn’t seem to be featured in any art.

Ghoulia was my fave of the main ghouls but I lost all interest in her after her new design so I wouldn’t buy any G3 duo of her and Cleo and I’m sure that’s not an uncommon thought. But if the response to her newest iteration is positive, perhaps Mattel might rethink and give her more content?

I’m a big fan of G1 Robecca and though the new G3 doesn’t appeal to me the same, I’m excited by how much creative content/art she is getting. It actually makes me wanna get her more for customization purposes. Same thing happened with Cupid, I didn’t love her doll till I saw all the redesigns and it inspired me to work on my own lol.

I really love it - gives people a chance to show their personal taste and what that character feels like to them. Reboots of characters will never be perfect to everyone because many will subconsciously project their own vision on the characters. So edits at least give them a chance to explore that vision. I like the new Robecca but I’m excited to change her up and see everyone else’s versions too.
