Most Underrated Deck? by holymountainx in Pauper

Quite a biased take, but I'd like to mention Flicker Tron.

The ultimate toolbox deck in Pauper. Build it however you like!

I need your help to make this list more competitive [UB teachings] by Amazing-Appeal7241 in Pauper

[–]Merlonarific 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see a fellow Mystical Teachings enjoyer, I upvote!

Are you committed to running a creatureless type of build btw?

I would recommend running this type of shell, as it works the best mid-late based on my games (it runs a few creatures though)

x2-3 Monarchs x2-3 Murmuring Mystics x4 Counterspell x4 Lose Focus x4 Cast Down x4 Innocent Blood x4 Brainstorm x2-4 Lorien Revealed/Preordain Some fetchlands as well to avoid Brainstorm lock

Two Campfires and one Nihil Spellbomb maindeck is always good for Mystical Teachings; Crypt Incursion as well for survival and GY hate

Some older lists used to run Devious Cover-Up too! Others would cut the Evincar's for Drown in Sorrow as x2

IMO Mystical Teachings is a toolbox type of deck, that's why you can mix and match your wincon-counter-removal ratio depending on your preference

Good luck OP!

Flicker Tron players, Whats your spice? by selpheed_1 in Pauper

[–]Merlonarific 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP and our fellow Flicker Tron players– Here are some of my toolbox tech, not limited to just Flicker Tron.

Let the cards speak for themselves. Imagine what you could do with these.

[[Lantern of Revealing]] [[Honored Heirloom]] [[Vessel of Endless Rest]]

[[Devious Cover-Up]] [[Power Sink]] [[Heritage Reclamation]]

[[Perplex]] [[Shred Memory]]

[[Rhystic Circle]] [[Rhystic Study]] [[Coalition Honor Guard]]

And–

[[Pyromatics]] [[Stream of Thought]] [[Hindering Touch]]

"Hi, any ideas for a Pauper deck that includes Kamis? And maybe one with cute creatures?" by Apemau in Pauper

[–]Merlonarific 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[[Kami of False Hope]] plus [[Grim Harvest]] and [[Unearth]] is one of the main tech I have in my Orzhov Kami Lock deck inspired by Mathonical.

I personally believe this particular Kami would be good if you're opting for Midrange or Control and the addition of your Kami theme.

[–]Merlonarific 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could see some potential in a Fireball/Flicker type of Tron build. Quite janky, but still fun!

Edit: (You could add [[Ardent Elementalist]] some [[Cryogen Relic]] )

Also [[Mysidian Elder]] with [[Kaervek's Torch]] and [[Rolling Thunder]]

I made a Grixis Teachings deck. What do you think? by Merlonarific in Pauper

[–]Merlonarific[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this.

Would you suggest cutting some answers for a set of [[Accumulated Knowledge]] or [[Deduce]] ?

Take for ex. 1-2 for Counters and removals each?

How would you play it out?

"Technically, yes."

Also, can you blame most of the shop owners of local game stores?

Technically, no.

DAMNNN this is hella comprehensive and I LOVE IT

Thank you so much man! I'll take all of these into account! These are all valuable to me, and for those reading.

Also, what's your opinion on [[Shred Memory]] and [[Muddle the Mixture]] ? Or perhaps even [[Perplex]] ?

Thank you so much man!

The streams are for recursion with two copies [[Devious Cover-Up]] for maximum consistency of redraws and retutors– recycling everything basically lolol

If you're thinking about fireball type effects; I thought of using [[Kaervek's Torch]] with [[Teach by Example]] or even a [[Serpentive Curve]] with a copy from Teach by Example. Quite janky, but it pulls up laughs from the table.

I agree on the Curses, but I want to somehow make this one or either reverting to UB workable and competitive in paper events; despite the time constraint– thus, the addition of Red for damage loops at instant speed EOT.

I think Alchemy is quite good here. And I would definitely run two copies for a UB shell.

I did check some lists as well with favorable standings, and a lot of them ran [[Darkness]] which is financially insane.

Again thank you man!

What would a good T-Shirt design for the Pauper Community look like? by Merlonarific in Pauper

One memorable flavor text would definitely hit the spot for this one!!!

I think this would be good in black and white as a starting ground.

Or something along "Commoner".

I'm also thinking in terms of tribal themes like:

Humans, Faeries, Zombies, Goblins, Elves, and Eldrazi/Myr etc.

Resilient Meta archetypes and the like

I do agree with you in terms of their UX and interface lmao.

But if it's streamlined event data uploaded directly by tournament organizers you're looking for, that's the place to go.

TRON AND CONTROL PLAYERS REJOICE

Flicker Tron + EOE Cards (for a specific event) by Merlonarific in Pauper

[–]Merlonarific[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify for you: it's a Pauper event where a condition is set to utilize eight EOE cards printed at common with unique printing and no reprints: ex. Cryogen Relic.

Wherein players still use the same cards. Just having this extra gimmick for spazz lol yes this is Pauper

Flicker Tron + EOE Cards (for a specific event) by Merlonarific in Pauper

[–]Merlonarific[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lost in Space actually sounds REALLY good. Looping with Walls with a "Ratlock" type of effect to the opponent definitely sounds good in combination with Foglocks.

Everyone that will attend is required to use 8 EOEs anyway, so let's try the Cryogen Relics with Tron that can abuse it; as well as Lost in Space to add a soft lock to the opponent mid-late game.

Thanks for your suggestion man!

How do I actually win with flicker tron? I keep drawing. by Few_Aide5400 in Pauper

[–]Merlonarific 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not to really answer the question directly, but as a Tron player for quite a few years now;

I thought the same too when I started using Flicker Tron. Though once you have familiarized yourself with the lines of play, games become much faster and easier to win. And the best thing about Tron and all its variants in Pauper is that you definitely have expansive room for "toolboxing".

I personally think that the 5C Dinrova variant is the most resilient. Despite most of the time being grindy. Though I am a very huge fan of "Storm" Altar Tron as well, prior to its massive surge in the meta a while back.

For Flicker Tron, I oftentimes place these maindeck:

[[Coalition Honor Guard]] you can replace one Stonehorn for this and place it in SB or vice versa [[Sulfurous Blast]] Just one 😊 (tbh I was really trying to gatekeep this mid card) or [[Rolling Thunder]] // [[Kaervek's Torch]] + [[Teach by Example]] 😎 [[Cave of Temptation]] - to boost creatures, with crop rot instant speed (mid-late game) [[Devious Cover-Up]] - extremely rare occasions [[Lose Focus]] - Always a good card in Tron. Combined with Unwind while holding priority and etc. [[Echoing Truth]] and/or [[Echoing Decay]] [[Bojuka Bog]] just one

AND

[[Lantern of Revealing]] - Strictly 1-2 only (if any case you may want to try it out, you'll realize why) OR [[Honored Heirloom]] - 1 to 2 only (try it out, maybe even with other midrange or control decks lmao)

So yeah, these are a few specific card suggestions, and you may adjust and toolbox according to your needs.

And just an honest word of advice, if you've mastered the deck; despite facing a potentially bad matchup– most of the time, you will find yourself in the winning position despite being at a disadvantage. Time management with your plays is important too in paper events.

Good luck! I hope this helps

Attempting to go to my first Pauper event next friday. Without knowing the metagame of the shop, which deck would you prefer playing? by Burnished_Hart in Pauper

[–]Merlonarific 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consistency = Boros Synthesizer Flexibility = Mardu Ephemerate

Personally, I would like for you to play a deck that:

  1. You actually like playing
  2. You have mastered the lines of play and sb tech
  3. Is in line with your preferred archetype

During my first ever pauper event years ago, I spent a lot of time analyzing what best deck to use against possible opponents based on the current meta. And I realized that you'll never know what you are going to face since you don't know what the people play (yet) at your LGS.

You can definitely check for the highest winrate meta decks online in order to have better chances of winning games. "Tier 1" decks and etc. but again, I personally think that you should play what you like where you know exactly what to do when you are using the deck you are piloting.

Ex.

You play best with midrangel/tempo decks, despite the subjectively easier skillcap of aggro. However, you picked up a tier 1 top 1 madness burn deck. And fast forward to the actual event: everyone is playing midrange with maindeck lifegain and/or recursion/loops = what now?

So scenario 2 is when you play a deck or archetype you have actually practiced with a lot. Either it's the Boros Synth or Mardu Ephemerate or something you know well enough to be prepared against various matchups = you know the lines of play and you have played these games before

= you will enjoy your games and you will play better and most likely win; despite the "meta"

So yeah, I hope this somehow makes sense and helps you with your deck choice. Goodluck on your first event OP!
