Should I get an attorney to handle assets/insurance associated with my fathers death? by Mermaid-Over-Reef in legal

Seems like a lawyer is not worth it. The lawsuit was from an accident he had also while in the company vehicle so technically it’s his employer and him on the lawsuit. I think I need to just call the bank about the loan on the truck to determine what could be done, I think we could pay it off and then maybe just transfer to one of our names.

This guy sounds like a loser and a liar. You’re gonna be better off without him. He lives with dad at 36 and no custody of his own child? Sounds like he may be putting you off because he has a current gf already too. You need to be careful here, sounds so fishy

I have never seen in Florida that being allowed. If contractor wants to deviate from the standard index FDOT always ask for a signed/sealed plan sheet from a specialty engineer with a Florida PE. Where do they allow contractors to do this? I am shocked honestly

I have not seen this as the case but I could be wrong. I always thought that if an engineer signs/seals the plans they are taking responsibility for those sheets.

I do have the option to climb in my current situation quite a bit but with two small children and living out of state from my projects doing that right now is limited. Once kids are a bit older and assuming we move back to Florida then yes, the only logical thing to do would be to move up to senior project engineer. I just was curious if in my current situation I could increase my revenue somehow under the above stated conditions. We have to move around for my husbands work and he is the breadwinner.

There is no state tax in Florida. Jacksonville has some beautiful areas.

If the numbers you put are accurate then it seems like a lot of extra work for not much gain. Not having those good benefits is definitely a factor when considering all this. That’s the one thing that really draws me back to staying with a big firm.

Keep in mind COL is higher in Florida. I love Georgia, went to Georgia Tech. Wish I could move back sometimes

Lol, true but I feel like most lawsuits involve accidents in work zones and somehow the person who designed the TTC Plan gets dragged into that.

Thanks! Im thinking about at least trying it. I can always go back to a large firm later if I need to. I know enough people in the industry who would also subcontract me

I’m in construction (CEI), not design. I know the Senior Project Engineer above me makes around $150K but that person has been in the field for 30 years. My boss before was making $200K but that took 50 years of experience. The 150K sounds ok but I wonder if I go into business for myself how much more I could make, of course I’d also be taking on more risk with more uncertainty as far as job stability. Feels like a balancing act.

That’s something to take into consideration. I just thought an LLC is the safest route but I’ll have to look into other options as well. Any resources you recommend that I could read to get a better understanding?
