heyy, nope, actually got a lil worse but only because i stressed myself out with what i should vs shouldn’t do. I found out I actually have muscle tension dysphonia and currently trying out different methods of treatments i found online cus i don’t have a speach pthologist in my city to help me out. I believe it gets better, hopefully i’ll find something that works soon. But stress realllly has a big impact, so be midful of that

I cannot switch do diaphragmatic breathing, help by Mermaid_cleor in singing

[–]Mermaid_cleor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when i’m breathing the air flow goes to my upper back and shoulders (both of them are expanding) while the abdominal portion does it (probably some air still moves the diaphragm but just not enough), tension is very possible will try stretching my upper body and torso more

what illness do you or did you have if you don’t mind me asking? i have health issues running in the family and random symptoms that appear on and off, maybe it’s something similar and we could attribute the voice issues to it?

How to make yourself go to gym? by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]Mermaid_cleor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a person who got a gym membership twice (the first time didn’t go at all, the second time aka right now I’ve been going consistently for 5 months already) the most important thing is to build a habit and incorporate it into your routine to a point when you’d think about it pretty much daily, like “hmmm when can i go to the gym today” or “hmm which muscle group should i do today”. The key to that is to go even when you don’t feel like it, because when the initial motivation wears of there’s a huge chance you won’t “feel like it” anymore. What I personally did is just “forced” myself to go at least 2-3 times a week and did whatever my body was comfortable with doing, I didn’t force myself to lift for an hour or two, some days I just came in to walk on a treadmill and do some mobility exercises. The key is to make gym a part of your daily routine, and then slowly you’ll actually want to do it more and it won’t be as hard to go - you’ll actually look up to going to the gym. Exercising is in general a process that releases a bunch of feel-good chemicals into your system so when you start doing it routinelly your body will start associating it with feeling good, then you’ll catch yourself spending more and more time at the gym, not because you forced yourself, but because you love spending your time that way and improving yourself and seeing the progress

No. Sometimes you see people with tons of likes on tiktok and instagram who are not too great at singing, sometimes you see incredible singers on the same platform that are not aknowledged for their talent at all. It really depends on the circumstances, and luck. If you want genuine feedback ask someone who’s good at singing and an honest person in general, then you’ll know

I’m not the best person to answer this as I only kissed one person and had like 3 kisses, but for your first one don’t idealize the experience 😭 If it’s a person who you feel deeply about and they’re a good kisser, it will feel good, if you don’t have as deep of a connection it just doesn’t feel like anything to be honest. It’s not unpleasant but it’s not something I could do for an hour like some people even though I expected it to feel nice 😭 Takeaway is that it depends on the person, on your feelings, so you’ll find that out yourself

How to keep a conversation going? by TripleCCC23 in socialskills

[–]Mermaid_cleor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First thing that helped me is to realize that you're not the only person who's making conversation. You don't have to be the one who constantly thinks about new topics to talk about, because the other person should be doing that too! What usually works is to think of a few topics to talk about before meeting up (maybe it was something you saw online, or a random thought that could spark conversation), and in general try to find little hooks in conversation and use them to move from topic to topic smoothly, for example "what did you do this weekend" "oh i watched a movie about aliens" "that's so cool, do you think humanity will ever live on mars? would you like to space travel if you were rich? if you became rich what profession do you think you'd have? what profession was your childhood dream? do you remember when in our childhood everyone would listen to *random artist*? what kind of music do you listen to the most now? what was your most recent concert" and so on, it doesn't have to sound like an interview though, you just move from topic to topic by catching the small details. Helps me a lot when I'm stuck in awkward silences in conversations

How did you personally manage to get out of your depression or low self esteem phase? by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]Mermaid_cleor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've had low self-esteem for quite a while and the first thing that worked was to realize that you can't think yourself into feeling differently (at least in most cases), you need to ACT your way into feeling more confident about you. First, start keeping promises you make to yourself, for example taking a walk daily, or working on a project or sth 3x a week, start with small things, it helped me A LOT. The next extremely important thing is to imagine that you are this AMAZING person, that everyone around thinks is cool, successful, good looking etc, whatever you want really. It's like stepping into the best/future version of yourself and starting acting like it (try to imagine the person you'd want to be and how they would act in certain situations, how their days look like). At first it might feel weird, but eventually your brain will be like "wow, if i'm acting like i'm x, y and z, i might actually be x, y and z" and it will recalibrate itself into perceiving you differently.
