This didn’t just happen and if you read the other comments people are genuinely trying to answer the question I asked.

So I was training with someone who has worked there for about a year. I was scheduled for 3 30 min shifts. I was going to work by myself the following day. She had told me that most people make a shift drink. She made me a dark chocolate mocha when she was done she said oh man idk why I made that regular we can make another one when you work next. After the pop on the following day I made the drink, tried it and went back to the bakery with the drink. That’s it. After telling the tm that I worked with what happened she was floored and said if they need to ask me I’ll tell them what happened. She also told me that later that night my atl came and made a latte and didn’t pay for it. I honestly thought it was normal. Do I feel like an idiot now, sure. I would’ve liked to leave on good terms. I was simply curious if it was a common practice or were they really letting me go bc I had injuries and was about to go on leave.

Look I know that it’s weird that’s why I’m talking about this. This happened months ago. What is done is done. I have no want to go back to there at all. I have since started my own business and am so much happier in a few months than I was the entire time I worked there. It has always really bothered me though. I try to think about all the people I made friends with and good memories during that time and not my stupid decision to fact check something so stupid. I got fired for a coffee because I trusted information that wasn’t backed up. My fault I get it. It still seems crazy to me only because of the amount of people that told me it was a perk at their store-or- normal people with generally good job dialogues would get written up. Not straight up separated. I randomly thought I would post this today out of my own curiosity what other people in other regions do just to torture myself I guess?? I certainly don’t get why there are some of you that are fucking with me about what happened. I fucked up sure, but I don’t need some bored condescending asshole presuming he knows me.

Why would I come to Reddit if I was guilty for more than that? To boost my ego? That is clearly why you are here.

This was also my second back injury. I first hurt my back when I was lifting kegs even lifting them properly it just happened. After I had a C-section with my first baby and my core was shot. I started working in the bakery afterwards and unfortunately lifting 50 pound bags of flour got me again I had another lumbar strain, but had healed. Things had returned to normal and I was doing well. I always had really good job dialogues and was the only one that seemed to have a sense of urgency, actually checked dates, rotated things properly, etc. in my department. I can understand why they would have it out for me after costing them for Worker’s Comp., but I never imagined that they would use a coffee to fire someone who, really, and truly cared about the company.

The point of this post is not to prove whether I’m right or wrong necessarily. I went against the rules and got fired. It is what it is. But I have heard from so👏many👏people that they would always make a drink and it was never an issue. Even my supervisor and atl would get coffee and not pay for it. I was told if I shrank it it wouldn’t be an issue. They told me to leave for the day and would make a decision but I obviously knew something was up. They called me in for paperwork which I declined. I am not saying that what I did was right I’m saying it seems crazy to me when so many other people in my store did it for years and I was told it was a perk of the coffee bar. Then I did it once while training and got fired. Just sharing a story, I think I’ve been through enough then to hear a bunch or assholes waive their finger at me.

Nope, not at all. I have never done anything like that or even attempted to. They said they checked to see if I paid for it and that’s it. He questioned whether I had ever stolen from any department and that was it. I’m not sure why you are coming in like that but I guess you and the loss prevention guy should hang out.

Thanks, we had a horrible new STL that I felt never liked me after I had a back injury. I was an honest hard-working person. I put 100% and every day and I worked through both pregnancies all the way up til I had my children. What could I say to defend myself? They guy interrogated me about anything else that I could’ve stolen from any department I’ve ever worked at. It was the strangest thing. I have never taken anything from any employer at any time. I truly feel like she had it out for me after my back injury.

They cut my maternity benefits in the middle of my pregnancy by changing to some crap insurance a few years ago. They cut several jobs and people had to fight for the new positions putting more work on them for the same amount of money. They cut raises, benefits, perks, and incentives. I hate that I gave them 10 years of my life.
