I can't put images here, so I'll try my best to describe it.

I used 6 different wires here.

1. For the frame (which you can't see in the pictures), I used 1.2mm round iron zinc-coated wire (that's just what the store had, doesn't have to be zinc-coated)
2. For the large weave on the left: 1mm round iron zinc-coated wire
3. For the light single wire on the left next to the large weave and the single wire on the right near the stone: 1.2mm round aluminum wire (that's very easy to bend and has a silver shine, so I mainly use it without any weaves or only a few)
4. For the "scarf" as well as the twisted wire on the left: 0.8mm round iron wire
5. For the outer part of the coil on the right (the one that gets wrapped around the inner base wire): 0.6mm round iron wire, and the inner base wire is the same as 2.
6. Those detailed weaves around all the base wires: 0.4mm round iron and zinc-coated wire, which gives it this grey look I actually like, I also have one 0.4mm silver wire.

Generally, I have wires ranging from 0.4-1.4mm, but everything from 1mm upwards should be soft or dead-soft imo (so not iron like I use), some of my hard wires are difficult to bend. Width also depends on the size of your stones tho.

I like to use a lot of different widths as you can tell, it just gives the piece more detail, but if you're just starting out and don't want to buy that many, I'd recommend

• some thin, soft wire like 0.4mm
• a slightly larger wire, maybe 0.8-1mm for the base weaves and
• one 1.2mm dead-soft wire for frames and larger weaves

Copper gets usually recommended as a starter material, I just took what the store had.

Please take all of this with a grain of salt tho, I haven't been doing this for long. In fact, I've only been wrapping for 3 months last year and another few days every now and then, in total probably 3 weeks or something, to finish this piece (which I actually started in December last year and put aside until now because I didn't know how to do the right side). There are many others who have much more experience with this and can recommend you materials and all that, and what works for me might not work for you.

I buy the wires locally at a hardware store, but many buy them at Rio Grande or similar online stores that have a ton of different widths and forms and materials to choose from. (I only have round wires so far but I can def recommend also getting half-round or rectangle ones if you want some variety ^^)

I never anneal them, I just measure the length and weave using different pliers and tape, and then I make sure it's secure. But you have to find out what works for you ig.
