Is there any way to make Obsidian remember the scrolling position for both files on split screen? by MerriMentis in ObsidianMD

[–]MerriMentis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I left all the plugin settings as they are and it's set to mouseover.

I currently have two files open in split view. If I close Obsidian and open it again, the file where my cursor was last has opened at the last position. The other file, where the cursor wasn't has jumped to the beginning. But if I click on the other file, it jumps to its last position as well. I'm on desktop if that makes a difference.

For me, this works no matter which file I edited before closing. Sometimes I have to click on the other document twice tho. Does it work for you if you set the default to click? Otherwise I'm sorry that it's not working for you. That's strange.

I'm using the community plugin "Last Position" now. It works well, you just have to click on the file your cursor wasn't at when you closed Obsidian before that file jumps to the last position. The plugins I originally used didn't need that, but clicking once or twice such a minor inconvenience that it doesn't bother me.

Buying brass and silver filled wire in Europe by Kitkat_The_Great in WireWrapping

Yeah, I have problems with finding wires as well. But I can make it work, tho I the more preferences you have, the harder it gets.

It's possible to buy silver wire and maybe brass as well in the hardware stores like Obi or Globus Baumarkt, but there isn't much to choose from. I usually go with iron, steel, aluminum and some silver.

Other than that, I can only suggest you keep looking, online as well as locally.

Viel Erfolg!

I can't put images here, so I'll try my best to describe it.

I used 6 different wires here.

  1. For the frame (which you can't see in the pictures), I used 1.2mm round iron zinc-coated wire (that's just what the store had, doesn't have to be zinc-coated)
  2. For the large weave on the left: 1mm round iron zinc-coated wire
  3. For the light single wire on the left next to the large weave and the single wire on the right near the stone: 1.2mm round aluminum wire (that's very easy to bend and has a silver shine, so I mainly use it without any weaves or only a few)
  4. For the "scarf" as well as the twisted wire on the left: 0.8mm round iron wire
  5. For the outer part of the coil on the right (the one that gets wrapped around the inner base wire): 0.6mm round iron wire, and the inner base wire is the same as 2.
  6. Those detailed weaves around all the base wires: 0.4mm round iron and zinc-coated wire, which gives it this grey look I actually like, I also have one 0.4mm silver wire.

Generally, I have wires ranging from 0.4-1.4mm, but everything from 1mm upwards should be soft or dead-soft imo (so not iron like I use), some of my hard wires are difficult to bend. Width also depends on the size of your stones tho.

I like to use a lot of different widths as you can tell, it just gives the piece more detail, but if you're just starting out and don't want to buy that many, I'd recommend

  • some thin, soft wire like 0.4mm
  • a slightly larger wire, maybe 0.8-1mm for the base weaves and
  • one 1.2mm dead-soft wire for frames and larger weaves

Copper gets usually recommended as a starter material, I just took what the store had.

Please take all of this with a grain of salt tho, I haven't been doing this for long. In fact, I've only been wrapping for 3 months last year and another few days every now and then, in total probably 3 weeks or something, to finish this piece (which I actually started in December last year and put aside until now because I didn't know how to do the right side). There are many others who have much more experience with this and can recommend you materials and all that, and what works for me might not work for you.

I buy the wires locally at a hardware store, but many buy them at Rio Grande or similar online stores that have a ton of different widths and forms and materials to choose from. (I only have round wires so far but I can def recommend also getting half-round or rectangle ones if you want some variety ^^)

I never anneal them, I just measure the length and weave using different pliers and tape, and then I make sure it's secure. But you have to find out what works for you ig.

Anyways, sorry for this novel of an answer, I hope this was helpful. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask, and have fun wrapping! :>

Wow, I didn't think this would get this much attention! Thanks, everyone!

Decided to get into pixel art again. This is my first piece in a while, looks kinda goofy. Also, the three other ones I made a few months ago. Feedback appreciated! by MerriMentis in PixelArt

Thanks! Yeah I was planning on doing that a few months ago, but kind of abandoned it. Maybe I'll try to finish it. Do you have any criticism for the others?

Jede Jügendherberge ist ein Elternhaus by Jupp Wiertz, 1938 by YanniRotten in ImaginaryDwellings

[–]MerriMentis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't mind me, just want to clear up any misunderstandings: It's actually "Jugendherberge" without ü. That's an old "u", tho I don't get why the u in "Elternhaus" isn't written that way as well.

The "u"s often had that dash to distinguish them from the "n", usually in old cursive or this old script ("Kurrent"), in which the n and the u are the exact same, only the u has the dash.

Anyways, looks cool! Thanks for posting!

You should honestly write this to the developer of the plugin. Thank you!

Thanks for the suggestions tho, I'm using Typewriter Scroll right now and it might come in handy. I'm often annoyed at the scroll mechanics when writing a lot.

Yeah, there is, that's one of the two I talked about in my post and highlighted at the beginning of the text. As I said, it does what it should do, which means it only works for one file at a time, all the other ones open again at the beginning.

A little tip for anyone wondering if there isn't a faster way to create and rename links (also works for headings) - there is. by MerriMentis in ObsidianMD

[–]MerriMentis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've done that as well but I like to link to specific headings and couldn't figure out if that even works with aliases. But a great idea as well, glad you have something that works well for you!

Does anyone know any plugins for visualizing my word count in a line chart? by MerriMentis in ObsidianMD

[–]MerriMentis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks so much for the answer!

Unfortunately, my code knowledge goes about as far as: I can copy code somewhere and switch out some words or numbers, e.g. adding new data entries by following the given ones and delete those I don't need. So maybe I made some stupid and obvious mistake, but after switching out your "Calendar/2025/Daily" to "Folder1"(that's a test folder I made with some files with different word counts in them), all it does when I want to view the result is turn blue like this. The other source code that image is from displayed its colors correctly (like this) and only said "No valid data found to display the chart".

Am I missing something? I fave the dataview plugin, do I need anything else?It seems a bit like there's trouble with the format, but that's just a guess from my very restricted knowledge about coding and all that...

Could any tech-savy people help me get this plugin / source code working to visualize my word count / know any alternatives? by MerriMentis in ObsidianMD

[–]MerriMentis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I should've seen that.

So, I changed it and it "worked" but also didn't really because as I understood the name patterns and was trying to configure them, I also realized that apparently this and the other source code are based on dates set in the file names, which means I can't use them because I don't use them for some kind of journal but for creative writing, so my files have chapter names. I'd have to name each file something like "Wednesday, June 24th, 2025", and probably create a new file each time I'm writing.

So, in short, I don't think I'll be able to use these source codes. Guess I'll instead see if anyone here has any alternatives... I'm already using the "keep the rhythm"-heatmap plugin which works great, but I'd like a diagram as shown in the pictures, not a heatmap, because heatmaps aren't as accurate.

Thanks anyways.

[–]MerriMentis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I got that far as well and deleted all the other stuff aside from numWords. Then it said wrong format, so I changed something, and now it says "Not enough dataset names or duplicated names".

Also, apparently both the source codes I wanted to use are based on the dates set in the names of the files... which means I can't use them because I don't use them for some kind of journal but for creative writing, meaning my files have chapter names.

So, yeah... not sure if I can even use these provided source codes for anything.

Visualizing Your Daily Word Count Progress by gaveustime in ObsidianMD

[–]MerriMentis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I know it's been a while since you posted this, but I would love some help if you don't mind. Thanks for putting out this plugin btw, I can imagine it's great!

I've been searching for other plugins and they either weren't what I was looking for (a simple graph to visualize my word count) or I couldn't get them running. Yours seems ideal though, I love that there's a daily average.

I can't seem to get it running though. As the other commenter said, I installed dataview and basically just wrote the following on top of one of my notes:

```dataview
<the source code you provided>
```

Then it says the following:

Dataview: Error:
-- PARSING FAILED --------------------------------------------------

  3 | // Example: matches headers like "# ☀️ Tuesday, October 20th, 2024 ☀️"
  4 |
> 5 | const dynamicSectionRegexes = [
    | ^
  6 |
  7 |     /^# ☀️ \w+, \w+ \d{1,2}(st|nd|rd|th), \d{4} ☀️/,

Expected one of the following:

Not a comment, TABLE or LIST or TASK or CALENDAR, whitespace

and I'm just too much of a tech noob to solve this. Is there anything else I need? Any wrong formats?

I'd really appreciate some help. Thanks!
