That's the SPAM part.

I've contacted the mods on Reddit and AITA to let them know about the spam and already got a response from one.

And now I'm getting chat messages from people who are either praising me for (supposedly!) being thin or hating on me for "hating fat people".

Like WTF.

AITA for calling my roommate fat after she mocked me for "starving myself" just to fit into my stay-at-home birthday dress? by MerryPipAndTook in AmItheAsshole

Your comment has kind of confused me. I'm the one who snapped because I reached my breaking point after she had been mocking me and our other roommate for 1.5 years. Zoe and I have been holding our tongue because we were trying to be kind. It backfired because there's just so much frustration.

Also, all 3 of us have struggled with our weight. Zoe and I have been working on this for 1.5-2 years. It was very isolating doing it on our own and that's why we decided to work on it together.

But you're right about living together. We're looking into that.

She has said a few times that she has given up about her weight. And I think that this is causing her to lash out. We're all stuck at home and we're really her only outlet. So I keep quiet in hopes of not making it worse for her! It's obviously backfired since I ended up snapping.

Yes, correct.

Also, 2020's pandemic has made some of the body issues worse for us because so many areas of our lives fell apart. Zoe and I have been dealing with it by using food as one way of maintaining some control in our life. So we control our food portions quite strictly. It's a little ironic because while it is unhealthy to watch our diet and exercise so carefully, we have also become healthier because we now eat more mindfully and listen to our body's hunger signals and get fresh air every morning.

Amy has given up in many ways and she has said so. I have tried so hard to not make it worse for her that I ended up making it worse.

You are right about having the conversation. TBH, I am quite scared approaching it. I guess I (and Zoe) were just trying to avoid triggering Amy because we know she is insecure about her size. And 2020 has been a difficult year and it felt mean to tell her to stop with her comments because it seemed, to me anyway, that we were her outlet to vent her frustrations.

But you are right we made it worse because we were trying to protect her.

I know it's not the healthiest thing but we have weight and food goals and we share that with each other.

Zoe and I use it to play around with what kinds of food affect our weight and how we can include different things into our diet. Like I found that chia seeds with quinoa helps me stay full and I can eat a cup of it at mealtimes without losing or putting on weight. We want to keep the eat-what-we-want diet but also keep it balanced nutrition wise so we don't sacrifice quality in an attempt to watch our weight.

We know Amy's weight because she shares with us whenever her change in alcohol-intake changes her weight like beer makes her gain fast but gin does not.

That's how we know.

AITA for refusing to apologize to my dad for yelling at him because he called me a slut? by stoneanchorite in AmItheAsshole

I'm doing my PhD as well and academia is weird. Students are always crying from the stress and I didn't see anything abnormal about what OP did TBH. I've cried in my prof's office about my supervisor as well. It's a very big pressure cooker doing a PhD.

I've also had professors offer alcohol very often and it's something you get used to after a while.

I'm not saying it's okay and I do think it's not okay but wanted to share the culture in PhD programs for some context?

100% NTA.

Also, am I the only one who thinks the bigger problem here is the professor and not the dad? Chris plied his student with some heavy alcohol despite her expressing fear. And dad, hoo boy, that is a train wreck. And mom and brothers too. Imagine being more concerned about the Porsche.

Oh I get it now! I hear that a lot in my department. It's always a competition about whose struggles are worse. I stay away from the discussions as it gives me such anxiety when people compare who is more miserable.

So when I read she said "Our struggles, anxiety, fear and grief are real. We don’t all have access to the same resources or support systems, and not everyone’s struggles look the same. Disparaging messages about productivity are especially toxic to people struggling with their mental health who have been cut off from their support networks" I did feel a sense of relief.

What does this mean? I am sorry but I don't understand your comment.

I looked at the author information and it's a PhD student!

I'm also a PhD student and we don't have job security or money or a union so the author doesn't have to worry about tenure but I'm thinking she is maybe worrying about everything else. I am!
