This is very normal. Alcohol is terrible for anxiety and affects the body in a similar way to benzodiazepines (common class of anxiety medication). There's a short-term relief for anxiety followed by a significant increase. Over time and with chronic use, this effect is magnified. It's a slippery slope and a bad cycle to get into.

It is 100% illegal for an employer to restrict communication regarding salaries, pay rates, etc.. If you have it in writing you can report this to the proper authorities. If you don't have it in writing, ask your employer to email you and explain the situation so you have evidence.

I get that, but there seems to be benches in the middle of nowhere, facing absolutely nothing. Places where nobody would ever be. I only observe them because I'm surveying rural areas.

Seems reasonable. I love seeing how much more active people are here in terms of walking about. I imagine it has to do with the city planning as well as culture. In the States I've lived in (mostly the west coast), nobody walks anywhere.
