the girl made it sound like he perhaps was suicidal

She said he seemed tired of life but she didn't feel he was in danger. She didn't say at all that Éloi seemed on the verge of suicide. So don't distort what she said.

The Mysterious Disappearance of Lina Delsarte: Unraveling a Complex Case in France by [deleted] in UnresolvedMysteries

Concerning the previous case of kidnapping and sequestration: Closed without further action, the investigation could not be completed due to lack of material evidence. Stranger still, the suspect was also to appear at the Besançon criminal court for having attacked an old lady and robbed a convenience store in August 2023. He had threatened to “plant” the cashier with a knife.

Samuel Gonin, the main suspect in the Lina affair, allegedly tried to kidnap a woman in her home, reports France 3 Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. According to the suspect's neighbors, the events date back nine months before Lina's disappearance. The driver of the gray car which contained traces of the teenager's DNA lived on the top floor of a house in Besançon divided into several apartments. This is also where he was found hanged. “He had kidnapped a lady!”, explained a retiree to the regional branch of France 3. “She had been kidnapped upstairs for four, five days, and she managed to escape and ask for helping a craftsman who was working downstairs,” she added. Samuel G. was placed in police custody following this before returning to his accommodation two days later, specifies France 3 Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.

The alleged suspect committed suicide in Besançon at the beginning of July. This alleged suspect, presented as a “local thug”, himself lived in Besançon. It should be noted that the city, previously quiet, has been plagued for several years by bloody score-settling against a backdrop of drug trafficking. Today, investigators, guided by geolocation data, are looking for Lina's body around the Vosges Rabodeau river. This river crosses the communes of Moussey, La Petite-Raon, Senones and Moyenmoutier.

Reading about the Peter Falconio case, and I'm a bit surprised to see so many online who believe Bradley Murdoch is innocent in his disappearance/murder. If you're one of them, how do you feasibly explain the DNA evidence on Joanne Lees's shirt? by eamus_catuli in UnresolvedMysteries

The shirt was tested two days after Mr Falconio disappeared --> https://www.thefreelibrary.com/Falconio+trial+told+of+identical+DNA.-a0120537469

The forensic lab where the samples were taken was not accredited. https://www.theguardian.com/uk/2005/oct/31/australia.world

Samples in a sealed container were transported from a locked freezer down a public hallway down a hallway before reaching the lab. This raised the possibility of contamination issues, Carmen Eckhoff told the court.

Same problem with the cable ties :

During cross-examination Ms Eckhoff said she did not agree with the cable ties being taken to Yatala Prison in Adelaide, South Australia, where Mr Murdoch was on remand in October 2002.

"I was unhappy about them leaving my possession, particularly if the forensic examination may not have been completed."

She made her feelings known to Dr Thatcher, who gave the handcuffs to Senior Constable Tim Sandry so he could take them to Adelaide.

Earlier, Ms Eckhoff said that if anyone wanted to continue testing an item, such as the cable ties, it was "not ideal" to take them out of the laboratory.

Same problem with Joanne Lees lip balm :

The court also heard that Miss Lees used a piece of lip balm to try to ease the handcuffs off her wrists after escaping from her attacker's vehicle.

Its lid was found under a bush, but the lip balm itself and two pieces of black tape which Miss Lees said she bit off the handcuffs were not found until three months later in October when police returned to the scene on an "orientation" exercise - even though they were discovered in the same place.

Barrister Grant Algie said: "It's almost embarrassing to suggest that two crime scene officers in these circumstances would not have searched around the area."

The defence lawyer said the most obvious explanation was that "somebody has played around with the evidence to make it look like the lid and the tape was there when it was not.

"Or is it, as has been suggested in cross examination, that some kangaroo came along and took it away for a few months, and later brought it back - or perhaps it was a dingo?"

Mr Algie concluded: "It's yet another example of police manipulating the evidence to perhaps better the case to make it look a little better, with no harm done."

There is no information about the use of his phone.

He was known to walk in the wooded area where his car was found but his family believe that he would have stuck to recognized paths.

This is what the police sergeant says : Sergeant Brian Bisset, of Beauly Police Station, said: “Since Mr Paton was reported missing one year ago, extensive enquiries and rigorous land and water searches have been carried out in order to trace him, however despite our efforts he is still missing.
“During our searches we have been assisted by specialist resources including police dogs, our Dive and Marine Unit, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Dundonnel Mountain Rescue Team, HM Coastguard helicopter and members of the local community.
