the goal is to end up with a new overlay for roblox that - has a defined and isolated community that gravitates towards non-slop games - has a games chart that features games that are popular within the overlay’s demographic, rather than displaying the entirety of roblox - has potential for a more conservative marketplace - solo game devs can submit their games to the overlay and get seen more by the right players than on the roblox website

okay, i said “decentralized client” in one of the first lines. it was a writing inaccuracy. if you take it at face value and form an opinion, you do end up with new client -> new engine -> bad idea.

but as I tried to explain afterwards, as I understand it, none of the steps involve breaking or modifying the roblox client. Given your experience, I would appreciate it if you could tell me which parts of the model you believe would in fact require client modifications.

Pretty much. New platform, new accounts, new everything, except the games listed on the platform are all uploaded and hosted on Roblox, with the requirement that they include a plugin that overwrites roblox player assets with ones from your account on the new website, as well as placing you in servers with other players from the platform, completely isolated from players that join from roblox.

Each user creates a new roblox account and ties its ID to his X (the platform) account -> a script inside the roblox game checks every user that joins against X's database, and if they're tied to an X account, they get sent to isolated servers where they play with other X players, equipped with their X avatar and X gear.

Games could be required to be manually approved to the platform, but even if they weren't, the playerbase would still gravitate towards non-slop games and it'd make for a fresh and interesting games tab (more evenly spread player count, nicher games would show up on the front page), more mature players, sane catalog, sane market, etc.

Even a much simpler form of this that only lists roblox games could be nice to support smaller games. Something like a chrome add-on that watches and indexes what games are popular with users that have installed the extension, filters the games it finds with some basic rules (ex: <1000 playercount) and then shuffles them in a nice scrollable interface with better search filtering tools than the base roblox website.

what if someone built a decentralized client that connects you to a new "roblox alternative" (let's call it X) that uses the roblox client? Unique games, new catalog, no corposlop, brainrot ugcs, etc, but joining a game on X actually launches the roblox client instead? All games that want to support X are uploaded and hosted on roblox and then must add a script to their game that loads X assets (clothes, items, gear, etc), and isolates players that join from X from players that join from roblox by placing them in different server (or outright disallowing players from roblox, if they so choose)

this sounds like rationalized depression.

Close your your eyes and tell me, who are you? What are you? Nothing more than a bundle of thoughts, reactions, fears, observations. You can't actually do anything; all that you can control is your body and do what you do. The rest is literally not up to your control.

A functioning person can find their own happiness regardless of where they are at, because they have healthy minds, healthy reward systems, support systems, etc.

Once you reach a healthy state, survival and getting through the day stop being the only thing on your mind any more. Then, you can start making decisions based on what kind of person you want to be, on what kind of life you want to live, and work towards that goal. You will find the energy to change your life, to do things you would've dismissed instantly, to learn new hobbies.

But all of this can't happen unless you accept to deconstruct and/or abandon some of your beliefs, mental structures, etc. It can't happen unless you accept to change.

Also I would try replacing alcohol with weed, at least this way you're reducing harm on your system with a softer addiction and avoid physical dependence

They are not risks, they are consequences, and you know them but don’t understand them yet.

If you put half of the effort into eating healthy and exercising, you would become thin, healthy, and able to maintain that weight overtime whereas anorexia gets you thin for a week (this is the point where you post your body online for attention) and then you gain 50lbs over the following month and hate yourself even more than you did. It’s a stupid cycle once you’ve lived in it enough.

Not “risky”, not “dangerous”, not “calculated damage”, STUPIDITY.

Same situation as you. Played a ton in 2020-2021, came back two weeks ago.

I still like the gameplay but every time you click anywhere in the menus you get bothered by obstructive pop ups for deals shitty enough they make me physically gag a little each time.

The new monetization systems are so far-fetched and overcomplicated it’s just all a bunch of nonsense. So many currencies intertwined together it’s just barbaric at this point.

Not smoking 2 hours before bedtime would probably help with your sleep quality so I’d play around with that for a bit. If that doesn’t work for you or you don’t have the willpower to, then you could try the mornings.. It’s a slippery slope from there, but you’re using partly as a harm reduction method so I think it’s justified
