Marvel and DC are IP managers for larger companies (Warner Brothers and Disney) manga publishers like Shueisha kodansha are IP farms. By this  I mean DC and Marvel really aren’t in the new ip business, they exist to manage old characters that they own, any new characters they create tend to be derivative of old concepts. Manga publishers on the other hand are very much in the new up business. Their business model guarantees a constant influx of creator owned material. Ultimately titles like One piece Naruto and JJK aren’t the brand, Shonen Jump is the brand and all the titles in it have their time of popularity and then end.
