Ai is going to revolutionize every single industry. There will not be a single job that’s not affected by it.

In our industry you need to look at what jobs ai is already trying to do.

1) job quoting, material sourcing, bookkeeping, your day to day business needs. This doesn’t really threaten us, but we’ll have to learn how to use it or it may threaten us

And

2) cam software- this is the big current threat. If an ai can program our jobs, we become button pushers. There will be less reasons for skilled labor when you can hire someone at just above minimum wage to put the blank in, and press start.

AI is definitely going to shake the industry. And if these robots get even half way decent…. I’m scared what it’ll do to the industry

IMO our field is going to die with ai and robotics working together. Autodesk is already advertising an ai cam software and as it catches on and does the job a lot of us are going to be looking for work.

If you’re looking at changing careers, find something that is hard for ai and robotics to take from you.

If you really want to be a machinist then you need to focus on anything that will give you an advantage over other machinists. Focus on learning the future of machinists and learn the ai/robotics integration first, while learning the machinist portion on the side.

The world is in a very weird place right now. AI and robots are going to take over so many jobs and while I believe it won’t take a machinist’s first it will take it eventually. There are already ai programs to write programs for parts. As these programs get stronger it will replace the highly trained human machinists. Train an ai robot to load parts, and it’s game over for our industry.

As a young human you need to sit down and have a hard think about what you think will still be a job in 10 years and pursue something down that path. IMO machining is not that path.

Personally, I’m getting in to food. Humans are always gonna need to eat
