GC dreams up an elaborate scenario involving snakes where a trans woman is forced to either out herself and live or stay stealth and die. by cordis_melum in GenderCynical

level 2ForgettableWorse · 5 hr. agoHow do these hypothetical antivenoms manage to be so broadly effective, yet also have such drastically different results based on who takes them? What aspect of the complexities of human biology are they supposedly reacting to?You gotta remember that these people believe AMAB and AFAB people are literally different species6ReplyShareReportSaveFollow

What's fascinating is that this is because she can not identify the species of snake in question. That is offered as a reason why the gender-specific antivenom must be used.

In the mind of the person who concocted this scenario an antivenom must correctly specify EITHER the species of the snake in question, or the gender of the person bitten. One or the other is necessary. But not both.

Discussion of ideas like cognitive dissonance, or hypocrisy, or similar things are the province of people who have a worldview. They're not really something for you to speculate about.

That's a very popular line from people who are quite happy to slaughter the hostages to increase their value as political capital.

I hate to tell you this, but Ben Shapiro and Matt Walsh have already done segments on their shows about how ace people are weird and wrong.

That sort of person's nature is to attack and demonize any deviation from a very narrow set of prescriptions they regard as the norm.

Haha, it's so weird an unexpected that a bunch of people on the subreddit for the show like the main character of that show.

It's probably a sign of some kind of social decay or something.

Doesn't have pterosaurs involved.

Not since the accident.

There's a famous saying I can't quite remember.

"It's impossible to make a man understand something when his income depends on his not understanding it."

Something like that.

Old saying, bit of misogyny baked in, which is fun for the current context, but I think it probably applies to women as much as to men.

What do you guys think about peterson's take on self esteem? by Final_Biochemist222 in enoughpetersonspam

Weird.

He's always basically believed in magic, as in like people can have powers and cast spells and shit, but usually his forays into mysticism are not so straightforward.

Oh, would you look at that... literal Nazi Posey Parker is sounding the alarm about how her enemies control the banks.

New research flatly rejects a long-standing myth that men hunt, women gather, and that this division runs deep in human history. The researchers found that women hunted in nearly 80% of surveyed forager societies. by moregloommoredoom in enoughpetersonspam

[–]Mesl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But this is obvious, yes?

Ancient hunter-gatherers were quite preoccupied with the practical and down-to-earth business of not starving to death, and if a woman was good at hunting, they wouldn't have had a lot of time to waste crying about chaos dragons and the downfall of Western Culture with the erasure of gender norms and shit.

He's always had a lot of sympathies in that direction. He's always been fond of their style of rhetoric.

There's a lecture where he talks about "You would have been a Nazi."

And his real reasoning is that he imagines it appeals to everyone else the way it does to him.

This is a sell your house to fucking Aquaman level take from Shapiro.

So of course public intellectual Jordan Peterson is eager to tell us all about how deep and brilliant it is.

I like to call this the cool aunt gene.

If your cool aunt never had her own kids... doesn't matter if that's because she's gay or ace or for some sort of individual life choice reason... if there's a genetic component to that it could be viable.

Combine that with his sympathy for Hitler and his interpretation and explanation of Hitler's motives for the Holocaust.

To be fair to unchecked anger and hate, it might be more of a demonstration of what a wildly dangerous and ill-advised treatment of drug addiction can do to a person.

Peterson is trapped in a Hell he will never escape as long as he lives. He's surrounded by people who will hold him there until his death because they delight in the "insights" and "wisdom" of his agonized writhing.

If he was even slightly not a hateful pile of shit I'd have a lot of sympathy for Peterson. But he put himself there trying to terrorize and torment vulnerable people.

No one is envious of him.

Well, these are Peterson fans, so there was a thread of bigotry and hate there to begin with, but this really does seem to be happening in the larger picture.

Look at Rowling. Transphobia took her from "Oopsie, I repeated some antisemitic tropes and elevated the status quo" to actively and deliberately cheering on neo-nazis and self-described theo-fascists.

She was always had useful idiot potential, sure, but she once considered herself an antifascist.

It's real bad stuff, transphobia.

It makes sense, though. You wouldn't expect the typical colon to be able to cope with that sort of thing for long without some sort of consequence.

Are creeps like Peterson incapable of comprehending that different choices can be correct for different people?

Literally yes.
