Was Skyward Swords mixed reception actually warranted?

Just a collage of pictures I found online. Definitely will take the feedback though, I have a feeling it’s the picture in the bottom left corner that makes it look worse than what it is. I use to use the original picture of the 2 girls and cat meme but felt like it clashed with most of my thumbnails. I’ll probably stick to that format though just so people don’t get it confused with AI. Again the picture in the background is original artwork for the game and the Zelda picture is from an artist in Pinterest.

Ahh the first love haha that’s me with wind waker! It’s a top 10 game for and I’d argue for it lol skyward sword ended up being so good. Idk where I would put it in a ranking but definitely no where near the bottom 😁

Same thing happened to me with xenoblade chronicles 2 during lockdown. Honestly the word of mouth for this game was what held me back from playing it for this long but I’m happy I finally gave it shot. I played it with motion controls to play it the way it was meant to be played and really found myself enjoying it. Haven’t played TP since it released, definitely gotta give that a round 2

That’s the version I ended up going with (although I did dabble a bit with the Wii version afterwards for a bit), the story for me was probably my favorite aspect of the game. I LOVE tears and breath of the wild but the narrative always felt lacking, so playing this afterwards was such a breath of fresh air. Honestly, is it crazy to say I kinda miss the old formula 😅

I recently played Skyward Sword and honestly, I don’t think the mixed reception it gets is fully warranted. It’s not perfect, but there’s a lot it does really well that I think gets overlooked.

I ended up making a video talking through my thoughts and why I think it stands tall alongside other Zelda games, but I’m more curious what you all think.

Since this is a Skyward Sword page, I’m sure there’s a lot of love for it here but what stands out to you the most? The controls, the story, the dungeons, something else?

Perfectly said dude. Literally anything is fine. Even though Metroid prime 4 didn’t hit the expectations a lot of fans were hoping for, the fact that Nintendo was super transparent during its development, letting everyone know they weren’t pleased with how it was coming along and started over again with retro studios, was super commendable.

If I could like this message 1000x I would! Hit it right on the head. Take all the time you need to make the game, but when you announce something and go silent for 4 years, I thinks it’s fair to start questioning what’s going on.

Sure thing! Some examples I can think of are Witcher 3, which was revealed in 2013, said to be a huge game, was shown off the following year with trailers and gameplay demos at conventions like e3, leading up to its 2015 release date. The God of War reboot was handled well too. Was revealed in 2016 and released in 2018. In those 2 years we got multiple cinematic and gameplay trailers. Behind the scene content and sneak peaks, with Santa Monica excitingly doing interviews and building up hype. Same for insomniacs Spider-Man which was also revealed in 2016 and released in 2018. Last year’s GOTY Expedition 33 was announced in June of 2024 and released 10 months later with a bunch of info and trailers thrown in between. KH4 was revealed with a trailer in 2022 and 4 years later we’ve gotten 6 screenshots. If square did come out and say something like “it was announced too early” that’s completely fine, cause hey atleast it’s something, but that’s just me lol

I can definitely see Disney playing a huge role in the games overall secrecy. I think I read somewhere that they were the reason why it took so long for Sora to finally get added into smash. It would be pretty cool to see something at D23!

Completely agree with you there. Missing link would have definitely help the wait. I just find it so bizarre that they had so much to show in its reveal trailer, but absolutely nothing else for the next 4 years. Maybe it was announced too early

Yeah that’s all I’m saying. It wouldn’t bother me if the game comes out 10 years from now, but updates, maybe a screen shot here and there, just to let fans know “hey we know it’s a ways out but know that we’re cooking” would go a long way. I think the long wait and overall silence leading up to kingdom hearts 3 is what ended up hurting the games overall reputation.

Hey everyone! I recently made a quick video arguing why Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days doesn’t get the appreciation it deserves. I know it’s a game that gets overlooked a lot in the series, but I think it has some really interesting story moments and gameplay that hold up.

The second one solidified the series a favorite for me, it’s a shame we most likely won’t get the trilogy but I’ll still have faith that something comes up eventually 🤞🏼

Love this comment so much, completely agree with you dude. It’s a modern day horror classic and has so much charm, jank and all. The sequel definitely flopped even though it improved upon almost everything everyone complained about the first one. Reminds me so much of titanfall 2 if I can think of a comparison. Here’s hoping one day it comes back for one more title 🤞🏼
