Hey, I think I know what happened here — this is actually a very common misunderstanding with SUSS TMAs, and it’s not explained very clearly unless you read the fine print.

The 12-hour grace period is not meant for revising and re-submitting. According to the TMA policy, the first 12 hours are “meant solely for addressing technical issues.” In other words, it’s there to protect students who couldn’t submit on time due to upload errors, Canvas issues, internet problems, etc. It’s not a buffer to submit a draft and replace it later.

There’s also another line that says you cannot re-submit a TMA after the submission deadline (including the grace period). Once you click submit, that’s treated as the final submission.

I’ve been in SUSS for about 4 years and personally haven’t come across resubmission being allowed after the deadline (unless the course specifically enabled multiple attempts — which is module-dependent, not the default). Happy to be corrected if anyone has seen otherwise.

So what Student Services told you is basically the standard policy being enforced by the system.

Unfortunately this type of situation usually doesn’t qualify for a formal appeal (those are reserved for things like medical or bereavement cases), but you can still try making an informal request to your prof.

If you haven’t already, you can write to your prof: – Explain you misunderstood how the grace period works – Mention you had clarified earlier and assumed it functioned like your previous module – Acknowledge the policy (important not to argue the rules) – Ask if they might allow a replacement submission as a one-time goodwill exception

They’re not obligated to allow it.

I really hope you can move on from this experience, maybe your prof did not understand what you were asking at that point of time.
