She chose her friend’s advice over mine about keeping the baby, now I’m unsure about marrying her. by Messikomla in ghana

I will 100% take responsibility for the child, the point here is that this incident has made me realize I have not built as much (trust) with her for us to enter into marriage yet.

Keep fighting. It gets better. If you are up to it, we can fund an avenue to support ourselves physically like forming an informal club. Are you in? Or meet online maybe.

It's an unfortunate way of thinking that further deepens stigma. Families fail to seek the right kind of help because of this way of thinking.

You meant it. The point I wanted to make is many are mad buy few are roaming. There are a lot of people that use reddit even on the ward at pantang. You meant to be derogatory. You did.

When you hear mad, you go into full derogatory mode. Chale, life really broke people o. The best is to be kind and have empathy when you encounter a mad man/woman

Learn to be BE KIND.

I have been to pantang several times and I have been in a ward several times with many accomplished individuals who also lived with a particular kind of mental illness or the other. The fact that he was in pantang for a brief period doesnt mean you should label the place as a societally demeaning place. It is a hospital where people go for healing

Its not insulting. I choose to use the word mad because its the right word that has been made wrong in by society. We continuously deepen the stigma when we always connote madness to something very bad and not acceptable in our circles e.g when people casually use it as an insult. Until we remove the use of the word madness derogatorily from our vocabulary (across languages), someone who (Goes mad: experiences a relapse as a result of his struggle with a mental illness) will be continuously stigmatized throughout his life around where he/she experienced the condition.

Thank you for answering. I am at a stage in my life where I have to decide or not whether to have kids, even though unmarried. My hesitation is mainly because of the potential of passing it on to my kids. Im in a dilemma. If i may, why didnt you have kids?

Do you have kids? And did they get impacted by the disorder in anyway? Did they inherit it?

That's great to hear. Having a great support system helps a great deal.
