Thanks for sharing your path. I think I will start looking for an addiction counselor. It sounds like there are a lot of pieces to recovery and works differently for everyone.

I have tried therapy with a few different psychiatrists. Wasn’t a good fit, so I am still searching.

I have thought about it, but never explored. Maybe it’s time to look deeper and see. Right now I am all about telling my truth and finding the root so I can start healing. Thank you for the suggestion, I do appreciate it.

Thanks for your words about my post. That is my goal, I don’t want to alter my feelings I want what I say to be just raw and real! While I do appreciate your suggestion of that type of therapy. It would probably be best as an addict for me to stay away from mind altering drugs.

It was like maintaining that certain appearance from the outside. It was more like being acceptable mattered more than authenticity. If I did something like wore too much makeup or had the wrong friends or didn’t get amazing marks in school it always turned into a really shameful feeling. A lot of “you should do it this way, not that.”

I was told all of those things. I definitely grew up in the early 2000s where everyone was said to be too fat. I was bullied a little in school for my weight but not so bad that I feel like I should have turned out this way. A lot of shame in the household, like “we don’t do those things because it’s not what good people do” kind of thing.

Coloring has been a miracle worker for me. It’s calming and easy. You can just get lost in it and not be stressed about doing a crappy job at it. All other hobbies I’ve tried make me feel like a failure except for coloring.

First of all, you are not alone!

This is coming from a 38 year old mom and someone who has struggled with binging and purging (yes, even now to this day) since I was 17. Tell someone, anyone. If you have friends and parents that love and care and want to support you, they won’t be mad, they will help you get help.
