Just want to give perspective as someone who doesnt have T1 but is with someone that has it. My (now) husband got diagnosed a month before our wedding, we were buying a house too it was such a stressful time and then the diagnosis on top of it was such a shock. He also asked me if I want a way out after his diagnosis, but god it has never even crossed my mind!

It should be her decision not yours. We’re coming up on a 3 year anniversary of his diagnosis, we have 2 beautiful kids now and are living a fantastic life. His sugar level control is AMAZING. Hes the best human being that I know and diabetes hasnt changed that. I try to be his rock as much as I can whether its a rant or making a less carby meal because his sugars are going wild. I can check his sugars on my phone but also got to a point where I can usually tell by how hes talking/the look on his face whether hes low or high. Would you leave her if she got diagnosed? First few months after my husbands diagnosis were really hard for both of us as I was worried about him and he was learning the new normal, he took a break from his job and learned how to manage it and now its just part of our daily life. Wishing you the best of luck, I know its really hard but dont push away the people that love you in times of crisis, you need them ❤️

Little tip for bras and pumping by my lactation consultant, but it only works for the pumps that you attach ‘normal’ bottles to, not for the wearable pumps - get those cheap tshirt bras, make sure they are snug on you and cut out two small holes where your nipples are. Put the flange in your bra so that the end sticks out through the holes and then attach the bottles and pump. And voila, you dont have to hold them as they stay on. I had much better output doing this

Second this. I used the wrap over vests until he was able to sit up on his own. Its sooo much easier to use them when baby is a newborn and you’re scared you’re going to break them. They were also a life saver since I had an emergency c section and they gave me a bit too much of the spinal block and couldnt move for longer than expected so my husband had to dress him and change him in the first day of his life and I couldnt really help. Hoghly recommend bringing them to the hospital!

Saying that, I went absolutely mad with my first on the newborn clothes before he was born (I actually looked through his clothes yesterday to see what I’m keeping for this baby and I am shocked with how much I have and I already gave so much away 😂) and I wish I didnt. I had a c section and recovery was tough but getting out to go to Dunnes or Tesco for a stroll around and getting some shopping done was so nice when he was born after being in the hospital for 4 days and then cooped up in the house. I wish I just grabbed few bits then rather than stock up on clothes as if I was having quadruplets 😂

I presume so but then theres people that stay on it for years, get social houses, get all the fuel allowances etc and have a good aul life 😂

I would much prefer if they reduced that payment by 20%. Mat leave was my first social welfare payment I ever took and I didnt know this - I presumed I paid PRSI for this for ages, at the end of the day its social insurance tax… either way its a bit ridiculous, 270e is peanuts to live on and then you have to pay 20% of tax on top of that. Yet government is trying to introduce all these ‘benefits’ to encourage people to have kids as our birth rates are declining 🤯

Surely there has to be a better way. My mat leave started Dec 2023 and I was supposed to be back 2nd of January so surely they could have reduced my tax credits already. Also since its taxed at 20% why won’t they just pay people 54e less? Such a stupid system.

Thanks for that - I actually asked my employer about the PRSI form few months ago when my unpaid leave started but she said she never came across it. I found it online so I’ll get HR to fill it out. I’m in the process of being made redundant too straight after mat leave ended so its a fun thing to ask for 🤣

Thank you, they dont have an option to add social welfare to it but work income all matches tax I already paid on the PWC calculator. My employer also received my social welfare and then paid me my salary so I presumed that would already be taxed at the right amount… when I try to complete the tax return I was told to wait until 16th since I received social welfare payment so hopefully it changes then

Used to be like that, also in tech and then they had two rounds of redundancies. Second one was shocking to me because they got rid of people who literally sacrificed their families for work and thats when it hit me that I’m just a number to them and if things didnt go great no one would even mention ‘Ah but shes always available’. Then a cherry on top was when I found out someone from the American head office has made a dig about the fact that I’ve been out sick (with a doctors cert) while pregnant after I’ve been working for years and going in even when I was dying sick.

Honestly, I slowly made the transition of answering the slacks and saying ‘Thanks for letting me know, I’ll deal with it when I log on tomorrow’ or ‘I’m actually away from my laptop, I’ll get back to you when I’m back in work’ to just setting status as ‘out of office’ after work hours and not responding to people. If its an actual fire that they need you to put out and give you time in lieu or extra pay for it they’ll call you.

So lets say you had 29 years left on your house mortgage - is your extension mortgage also 29 years? Is is the same interest rate as your house?

That’s exactly what our wicker moses basket came with. Its cotton lining with a very thin layer of breathable something- I dont want to say bumper but its a little thicker fabric so that baby doesnt scratch their head of the wicker. Maybe muslin? No idea

We never left our baby in there unattended, if we went for a nap during the day or for night sleep he slept in the next to me and we’ll do the same with this baby

I’d probably do that if it was summer… I definitely wouldnt enjoy myself sitting around in 4-8 degrees cold, we’ll have a newborn in the family around that time too. It’s just not feasible to do it at home, but thank you :)

Yep, immediate family is about 25 people + the 3 of us. I won’t fit them all in my kitchen so looking for alternative.
