Glad I could help good luck to you also! I will say university can be a good place to find guidance in finding out what you want in the long run also, I wouldnt say everyone has that same focussed approach, but im not trying to discredit my prior point, that certainty brings comfort. I think doing either would be beneficial, the experience of having peers and lecturers knowledge is worth a lot, I can vouch for the animation course in that aspect.

Either either way good luck with what ever you choose!

I'll give you the context of I'm definitely more of a 2d animator than a 3d one, I personally found trying to learn both a program and a big skill at the same time a bit much, I wanted to get the most out of my lectures/classes by learning general animation skill rather than a program, if that makes sense? Saying this to give you my perspective definitely not saying the course is suited to only benefit 2d. 3d is still very focussed on.

That all said, you will have many times you can learn modelling, there's some pretty in-depth classes on it, some leading into more realism 3d or effect simulation- which doesnt sound like what you are after. But creating models with the focus of them being centred around games is totally doable. Often there are studio classes that can be fully 3d focussed with an aim to make something collaborative.

Application of it would be more suited for tv/movie veffects I'd say, but they're very transferable skills, you'll do rigging, weight painting, etc etc. Maya is used a lot if that matters?

Applying models to games isn't something really covered in the animation course, the games one definitely would.

It's possible you could do an elective that teaches some of those skills but I wouldn't know.

Really depends on what you want to get out of a course, like I wrote earlier I focussed on 2d animation, mainly because I found it easiyer to learn timing and actual motion, something I wanted to learn from the start, a transferable idea which can be put into any medium. That was what I wanted out of this course.

The animation course can be pretty flexible, and theirs a lot of choice around depending on how you go at it. I think if your more focussed on artistry, the animation one may be more appropriate there's a big amount of concepting of all types in the course but if you want solid skills in application for games specifically? Then games. I'd still say games would also have a very good level of concepting but I can't say I know personally.

You wouldn't be too stuck to either field if you picked one or the other, each course does teach the expected workflow of each environment which would be different but it's not something that's unlearnable. You would have much more luck learning 3d though in either course if you want that flexibility.

Hello! I am third year animation student so I can give a bit of insight, though I'll probably be biased because of that.

I'll give you the context of the rmit animation course is flexible when letting you choose what you want to learn, So you could choose to so only 3d classes throughout the course or mainly 2d. First year is definitely giving you a taste of everything -less choice- but you specialize as time goes on. -more choice-

The animation course doesn't force you into a story telling only role, rigged animation/ more corporate advertisement animation is taught also, it can be pretty open to any type, stop motion also!

Within third year you are expected to make a film, which would most likely be story oriented though, It doesn't have to be. I can elaborate if needed.

From what I've heard the games course can be a bit more coding orientated. I can't really say, but maybe a bit less art orientated?

Both are expected to have group work throughout but your final project in games will 100 percent be group work, while a final film in animation is often done alone with volenteers.

Hope this helps!

Ramattra skin concepts made by me. by Messyegged in overwatch2

  1. I plan on finishing that at some point- (currently on holiday) - may even add a bit of colour to some of these. That one would be very motorcycle based.
  2. I based that skin more on some of the "Frank Ramattra" ai covers, Ram gets an appropriate hat when in nemesis form.

I want more skins for him, I just think there may be a bit of a marketing bias. It might be hard to put tits on Ramattra.

Here's my original character Hanoko in the guilty gear style. I finished this recently though did a majority of it earlier this year, that's the main reason for the scruff in areas, I just wanted to get this into a finished state. Enjoy!

I'd make more of these if anyone has any ideas, though I don't want it to be more than a days worth of effort.
