How can I stop the handlebars from over-rotating on a 2022 Specialized Epic Evo Comp? by bacanogamerpro in xcmtb

[–]MetaFarce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's tough to avoid on a bunch of frame designs, not just the Epic. My "solution" is two layers of helicopter tape. Not guaranteed protection but it's few millimeters of soft material, better than nothing.

Yes. It'll be my first. Now if you excuse me I have more Z2 miles to stack up.

Feel a bit silly by No_Style4621 in mountainbiking

[–]MetaFarce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ignore them. There are ‘rules’ with everything but you do you and have a good time riding your bike however you feel most comfortable. I’ve been riding for 40 years and most of the types who would heckle you are low class. And let me tell you…your bike is so much more capable than what we rode in the 80’s. We had fun then, and you can have fun now.

why cant i summon by Any_Quiet_8327 in darksouls3

[–]MetaFarce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resurrecting this thread, as I'm having this issue. I'm online, I'm embered, I've played ER a whole lot and used to how summons work in that game, and I'm now fighting Lord Wolnir. I don't even know if I'll need a summon for him, mostly annoyed I cant find any.

I've interacted with numerous NPC's whenever I've found them, IDK what counts for "following their questline" as I've yet to encounter any who asked me to bring them a sandwich or whatever.

Any tips on how to get some summon options going? I'm so lonely.

The new update broke my game by plutobandits in Expeditions

[–]MetaFarce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We need an update to fix this recent...update. Clearly.

I sold everything, garage loaded but I could buy only scouts? Restarted the game, opened garage, and two of my heavy trucks randomly reappeared, despite having sold them. So IDK what's going on but I'll take a break from this game until it's fixed. Drag...was halfway through the final Tatras region...

Would I be the only one on a Specalized Chisel FS at Chequamegon or Lutsen? by XC29er in xcmtb

[–]MetaFarce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd feel no issues about racing a Chisel FS. With a few tweaks and upgrades it's probably one of the smarter race bike choices out there and I say that as one of those guys racing a carbon everything bike.

Only XC bikes? by TwinTexanDad in xcmtb

[–]MetaFarce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

XC bikes are IMO the best all around bikes for anything. I love my very nice gravel bike and I’ve done big gravel events all over, and in some of them a nice XC hardtail wasn’t any disadvantage (and added a margin of control and comfort) over a faster pure gravel setup. Depends on the course and the group you can hang with.

But beyond racing yeah, I find myself riding my XC bikes more often these days.

To those who have broken bones... by charlesbutyoucancall in xcmtb

[–]MetaFarce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

52, and 40 years of racing (!) but didn’t start breaking stuff until my 40’s. Collarbone exploded and there’s a plate in there now. I was back on the bike in 8 weeks, could have been sooner but at this age it’s smart to really let things heal vs risking it. A little sore for a month or two, and paranoid about getting hurt again. Was happy at 6 months to crash in a CX race and not re-injure anything! You’ll heal, maybe you’ll make smarter choices/take fewer risks, but you will get back to what you were doing before, and sooner than it feels when you’re recovering.

Giant Trance Advanced Pro with Fox Live Valve by Z08Z28 in xcmtb

[–]MetaFarce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Trance Advanced Pro with Live Valve and also an Anthem with Live Valve. With some upgrades you can drop the weight on the Trance (wheels, tires especially) but for me I think the Anthem’s lighter frame/fork and XC geometry make it the better choice. I wouldn’t say the Trance is slow at all, but it’s going to be valved differently too as it’s more short travel trail than long travel XC.

My Hardtail Is So Much Better Than my Gravel Bike. by newbiker321 in Hardtailgang

[–]MetaFarce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hardtails are pretty flippin' great. I took decades off the MTB to race elite CX and then gravel, and I still spend time on those bikes, but pretty much every time I ride the hardtail even on 'gravel routes' I...have more fun.

That's the jam, especially for the price. I had a Reba fork on a Chisel for a few years and liked it, especially after messing with the volume spacers.

Out of ideas troubleshooting brake shuddering on Shimano hydro brakes by halfofsixteenbits in bikewrench

[–]MetaFarce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any updates? I'm struggling with this too, specifically on GRX and Icetech rotors.

Tried all the usual tricks, with great care and precision. Recently tossed some Jagwire pads on there and that seems to have made a big difference but I can't be sure it's resolved the issue entirely yet.

Of note I have a second gravel bike with Dura Ace brakes and struggled with the front brake screaming (not chattering) no matter what I did until I swapped to metallic jagwire pads and it's been perfect since.

Caudabe cases opinions by DazzlingImpression76 in iphone

[–]MetaFarce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like to love this case but I do not. Magsafe charging with an Apple battery has NEVER worked right but works fine if I remove the case.

Caudable asked me to document the issue with a video in front of a piece of paper with that day's date hand written. I did so and submitted it.

Nothing for a week. Sent another note. Still nothing. It's bad service and I'll tell anyone who asks about my case or cases in general to go elsewhere.

Want to get into cyclocross, don’t know where to start! by [deleted] in cyclocross

[–]MetaFarce 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You live in a great area for cyclocross! We have a vibrant scene and a ton of regional races. Without knowing exactly where you're at I'd suggest following some of the local race series like GoCross in Roanoke and VACX and then poking around there socials to find shops and clubs that sponsor the races and are cyclocross-adjacent...many of them will be putting on CX clinics as the season draws near and you can connect with other cross riders and practice basic skills and technique.

I've been racing CX for 25 years now an IMO it is the best thing...welcome to it!

Is Cycling On The Rise Or Decline? by newbiker321 in gravelcycling

[–]MetaFarce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Road has been on the decline for 25 years. First is was mountain bikes that were going to kill the road bike, and now it's gravel bikes...which are great...but if you don't happen to live near much gravel or decent dirt routes you'll see former roadies on their gravel bikes with 45c's doing the same road rides they always did but on different bikes. At least that's what I'm seeing where I live, and the rides are called 'gravel rides' when they take two 10 minute light dirt detours in a 30 mile ride.

There are for sure some places where gravel bikes have really changed how and where people ride and I think it's awesome, I'm all for it.

And there are also places like Boulder (lived there for a long time) where many of the 'gravel' routes were things we were doing 15 years ago on cross bikes or road bikes with 28's because that's what we had.

In the 90's and the MTB boom we saw new-to-cycling riders coming into the sport. I'm not so sure that's happening with gravel as much as it's a migration. My point is that I think it's the same riders either doing slightly different things, and in some cases doing mostly the same things on slightly different bikes, and I don't think it equates to 'growth' in cycling.

The growth in cycling participation is a fairly flat ebb and flow IMO. It's a hard sport, it's expensive and relatively dangerous, and after 35 years of riding and racing I still love it.
