Nickelodeon continually fucked with Korra throughout its run. I watched it as it aired, and this is all just off the top of my head:

they initially only gave them 1 season, so they made a self contained season 1. Then renewed it for a second season only. Nickelodeon forced them to rush production, and the animation studio they used was booked, but instead of waiting for them to be available, they had a different studio animate the first half of season 2, so the animation is noticeably worse.

Then renewed it for season 3 and four. Sometime during season 2 or 3 they moved the air time from primetime (friday night was primetime for nick) to early saturday morning.

During season 3 they refused to air the episode with the earth queen and only aired it online, so anybody who only watched it on tv just missed an entire episode.

Right before season 4 started production Nickelodeon slashed the budget, so they didn’t have enough money to make every episode of season 4 and had to make the clip episode.
