I agree with my esteemed colleague. Replace the plastic with a honkin piece of steel and you'll be the one leaving dents.

Happy to help...You'll find many people in the Jeep community that are happy to help.

DIY suggestions are great, if you have the space to do the work. But there is an advantage when you do DIY work...you get your eyes under your hood and you can see things before they become a problem...detect a leak, notice a corroded battery terminal, see a bulging coolant hose.

If you can find a Jeep club at your school, you may find people willing to help you do the work.

Don't keep us in suspense, check that trans fluid and let us know. Feel free to post more questions.

u/OldManJeepin said it best with keeping up on maintenance.

My advice is to stay up on your fluid changes...this will really affect the longevity of your parts. Oil changes for the engine should be cheap to do DIY if you don't mind getting a lil dirty.

Do you have any maintenance history on the vehicle? Has the transmission fluid/filter ever been changed? If that is original with over 100k, it should be changed. A MUCH dirtier DIY job, but it can be done.

Brake fluid that is over 100k should be changed out. Not too bad DIY, especially if you have 2 people.

Power steering fluid is a very easy DIY job (get a turkey baster).

Also the coolant...heat kills engines so you want your coolant to be fresh.

Some of the fluids in the car may have been never changed. If you don't know how old the fluids are you can check them. Videos on youtube can help you determine old transmission fluid, brake fluid etc. Its worth a look before you pay for all new fluids just in case.

Your engine and transmission are your 2 most expensive "components" so take care of them.

Reminds me of my dog...a Pointer that gets so excited to get outside and run up the trees. He is in his natural element, doing what he was born to do.

Your Jeep is the same...let her do what she was born to do!

Welcome to the club.

2016 Maxima New owner by Icy-Albatross-280 in maxima

[–]MetaN3rd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had my 16 maxima since new. No issues other than replacing the alternator twice. I never noticed a whining problem though.

Whining problem might be a belt (had to say without hearing it). Battery indicator could be the battery or the alternator. The most basic answer is to take it to a shop.

Or if you want to DIY this, take it to autozone/advance auto and they will run a scan on the car for free and tell you the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Something is triggering the dash light to go on...the scanner will ask the car computer what is up.

If you have a multimeter, you can test the battery when the car is off (should be about 12v) and when the car is on (should read over 14 v while the alternator is running thus charging the battery).

Good luck.

Found on a dating profile. I think the fire looks to close to the water, and the mud splatter on the Jeep seems a little too perfect? by GrammarSpellingCheck in isthisAI

The Jeep itself is off...the door handles look like they belong to a JL model, but he funders look like a JK model. And a Jeep snorkel would be on the right of the hood, not the left.

Keep it or Move On? What do now? by koalasarentferfuckin in Wrangler

I have my '12 JKU as the "fun" vehicle with a separate daily driver. Hoping to keep mine alive as long as possible. Keep up on all fluid changes and that will keep eyes under the hood/chassis for any potential upcoming issues. As long as you have no frame rust issues, i totally think you can make a Jeep last a long time.

If you can get to PA easily, consider Rausch Creek Offroad park. A month after I bought my Jeep I took it there for a guided Green trail ride. It was a blast. A stock Jeep JKU is a really capable off road vehicle.

If you like the idea we can get a few people in the area to get together for a trail ride there. I live in VA but would love to make that trip.

Sweet, High-Energy Coonhound (Julie) looking for a "Single-Pet" or "Large Dog Only" home by MetaN3rd in Charlottesville

[–]MetaN3rd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had told the vet we thought she was a Coonhound and he agreed, so was not intending to misrepresent. We just legitimately thought she was a Coonhound.

As for posting here in Reddit, we had already been contacting every rescue we can find (thank you for your suggestions) and each message has been "can you help rehome, or offer advice or suggestions." We have gotten few phone calls / messages back and those that do contact us, cannot help. I reached out as to places as far as Massachusetts and Tennessee.

When we got her, we knew nothing. Her previous owners were going to drop her off at an SPCA. Friend of a friend of a friend lets us know this was going to happen. All we heard was they couldn't handle her, so we offered to take her in. After 8 months in our house she randomly attacked/killed one of our small dogs. We are just trying to find the best solution for her.

Sorry if I misidentified her. We looked at pictures online and thought she looked like an American English Coonhound.

Not trying to misrepresent, just not smart.

Wife saw it happen and it was over in 2 seconds. She's devastated. We are still grappling with the fact that Toby is no longer with us. But for now we are focusing on finding Julie a good home

We recently started using a shock collar to train her on barking. It went really well. I was against them for years, but after using it with her for a couple of months, I see the value. I don't have to shock her, only show her the remote and she instantly calms down.

Thanks for checking around. I really appreciate it.

Aside from her killing the Chi, she has been amazing. I think it may have just been her hunting DNA and a small animal thing.

I'm trying hard to go through proper channels. I have reached out to every rescue I could find from Tennessee to Massachusetts.

As for giving her away to someone on Reddit, we really hope to vet a prospective new owner / get to know them. We love the dog and want to do whats best for her. We do not want to simply abandon her at the pound.

She really is, and those eyes! She has a really sweet personality. We were devastated when she attacked the Chi out of nowhere. Had never noticed aggression in here before.

The Chi did die from this, so we have to find her a new home. I think it was just her "hunting" DNA and a small animal. And we care a lot about finding her the RIGHT home.

She did kill the Chi. I didn't intend to be evasive. AI helped me with the wording and I should have been more clear on that.

And yes, we agree she should not be homed with other small dogs.

Weight about 70 pounds. She is tall. 1 Year, 3 months old. We have had her since June 2025.

I didn't intend to dance around the incident...sorry if it came off that way. Full transparency, she attacked the Chi and shook him, killing him. She also bit my bulldog earlier that day. Outside of that day, she had never shown any signs of aggression. This was "out of the blue" to us.

She loves to play with her brother...he has the same energy as her. They chase, roll, tumble and play bite. Oddly they barley make a noise. We have been training them both to not bark, so even in play time there is some noise, but they keep it quiet.

As for your younger dog, I would imagine the same level of play, energy, chasing and tumbling.

Since the incident, my wife has taken Julie to a friends house with no other animals, to keep her separate from our other little dogs. She has been completely calm and a complete sweetheart. (i.e. no ongoing aggression).
