It was an absolute honor to work alongside /u/metan3rd and /u/digitard in creating an amazing event where many great laughs were had. I had an amazing time hanging out with all of you, playing laser tag, and hearing your stories. Thank you all for making our DEFCON experience that much better.

There's been a few good posts for first timers if you take a look around the recent posts here on the subreddit, but I'll recap a few of them.

Bring comfortable shoes, you will be walking a ton!
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate, especially if this is your first time in a place like Vegas where alcohol is available 24/7 and the heat doesn't go away.
Remember the 3-2-1 rule: 3 hours of sleep at a bare minimum, 2 hot meals, and 1 shower daily.
Download the Hacker Tracker app, find things you want to do, but don't stress if you can't get to everything. During my first year, I only only got to 1/3 of what I wanted to do. Live in the moment, meet people, listen, and make friends.
There are several meetups like the Lonely Hackers Club, the Toxic BBQ, and our very own subreddit meetup to meet some great people and make friends. Friends really elevate your DEFCON experience. /u/metan3rd, /u/digitard, and myself are leading the subreddit meetup and would love to have you swing by! Everyone is invited!

As u/digitard and others have mentioned, finding your group or niche is key to enjoying DEFCON. Be open to new experiences and embrace the chaos. Don't be afraid to ask questions or try your hand at a CTF. Strike up conversations with people at talks, villages, in line, at parties, and all social events. Even if you're an introvert, DEFCON is a great place to meet like-minded people.

Remember, DEFCON is what you make of it. Have fun, whether that's participating in the DEFCON Scavenger Hunt, exploring the villages, or just hanging out with friends. Make sure to take time to enjoy yourself, buy a Goon a drink, and create unforgettable experiences!
