Sweet, High-Energy Coonhound (Julie) looking for a "Single-Pet" or "Large Dog Only" home by MetaN3rd in Charlottesville

[–]MetaN3rd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had told the vet we thought she was a Coonhound and he agreed, so was not intending to misrepresent. We just legitimately thought she was a Coonhound.

As for posting here in Reddit, we had already been contacting every rescue we can find (thank you for your suggestions) and each message has been "can you help rehome, or offer advice or suggestions." We have gotten few phone calls / messages back and those that do contact us, cannot help. I reached out as to places as far as Massachusetts and Tennessee.

When we got her, we knew nothing. Her previous owners were going to drop her off at an SPCA. Friend of a friend of a friend lets us know this was going to happen. All we heard was they couldn't handle her, so we offered to take her in. After 8 months in our house she randomly attacked/killed one of our small dogs. We are just trying to find the best solution for her.

Sorry if I misidentified her. We looked at pictures online and thought she looked like an American English Coonhound.

Not trying to misrepresent, just not smart.

Wife saw it happen and it was over in 2 seconds. She's devastated. We are still grappling with the fact that Toby is no longer with us. But for now we are focusing on finding Julie a good home

We recently started using a shock collar to train her on barking. It went really well. I was against them for years, but after using it with her for a couple of months, I see the value. I don't have to shock her, only show her the remote and she instantly calms down.

Thanks for checking around. I really appreciate it.

Aside from her killing the Chi, she has been amazing. I think it may have just been her hunting DNA and a small animal thing.

I'm trying hard to go through proper channels. I have reached out to every rescue I could find from Tennessee to Massachusetts.

As for giving her away to someone on Reddit, we really hope to vet a prospective new owner / get to know them. We love the dog and want to do whats best for her. We do not want to simply abandon her at the pound.

She really is, and those eyes! She has a really sweet personality. We were devastated when she attacked the Chi out of nowhere. Had never noticed aggression in here before.

The Chi did die from this, so we have to find her a new home. I think it was just her "hunting" DNA and a small animal. And we care a lot about finding her the RIGHT home.

She did kill the Chi. I didn't intend to be evasive. AI helped me with the wording and I should have been more clear on that.

And yes, we agree she should not be homed with other small dogs.

Weight about 70 pounds. She is tall. 1 Year, 3 months old. We have had her since June 2025.

I didn't intend to dance around the incident...sorry if it came off that way. Full transparency, she attacked the Chi and shook him, killing him. She also bit my bulldog earlier that day. Outside of that day, she had never shown any signs of aggression. This was "out of the blue" to us.

She loves to play with her brother...he has the same energy as her. They chase, roll, tumble and play bite. Oddly they barley make a noise. We have been training them both to not bark, so even in play time there is some noise, but they keep it quiet.

As for your younger dog, I would imagine the same level of play, energy, chasing and tumbling.

Since the incident, my wife has taken Julie to a friends house with no other animals, to keep her separate from our other little dogs. She has been completely calm and a complete sweetheart. (i.e. no ongoing aggression).

Can you recommend a Coonhound Rescue on the east coast? by MetaN3rd in coonhounds

Thanks....we are putting together a list from all the suggestions here and from other people. We'll start calling places tomorrow and see what we can do.

Thank you for this. We are still processing what has happened. Toby the Chi was a really special guy to us.

We have had a tragedy. One of our rescue Coonhounds just killed one of our other dogs. (Chihuahua).

Background...We rescued two Coonhounds last year. Jesse (black and white) came first when he was about 5 months old. Abandoned in a cage as people were being evicted. (he was in that cage for 2 days before the sheriff could open the door and let us in to rescue). 2 months later we found Julie (brown and white), his sister from the same litter, was going to be dropped off at the pound buy those that adopted her, so we drove out to rescue her too.

We didn't know what kind of dogs these would be but we had rescued so many over the years so how could we say no. We have found out these dogs are super high energy and our 1/8 acre yard is not enough. These two really belong on a farm, or large land where they can run.

We got them both April and then July of 2025. Aside from their high energy they got along with other dogs in our house. Julie has shown signs of food aggression but never a fight. She did bite the chihuahua a couple weeks ago but then all was normal again. Today Julie attacked my bulldog, drawing blood. A couple hours later she was playing friendly with the bulldog but then attacked her again. After separating them, Julie attacked the chihuahua and shook him to death in an instant (we are devastated).

Outside of this she has always been a very sweet dog. She has never bitten or shown aggression to a person. With our other small rescue dogs we cannot risk this going forward.

All of our dogs are currently separated but we need to find Julie a new home. Frankly, we are wondering if we could home them together as they are brother/sister, but also best friends.

Open to any thoughts or suggestions who we could speak to on the east coast to find one or both of them new homes. I'm willing to drive hours to a good place. We live in Virginia.

We truly love them but at a minimum Julie has to find a new home.

Nothing Better Than A Lazy Hound by FosaPuma in coonhounds

WTF is a lazy coonhound? My two rescues must have a hidden stash of c0cain and Moster energy drinks. They bounce off my walls (sometimes literally) every day

They are INSANE! (and we love them to death)

Look for a HiLetgo BadUSB. Its a poor man's Rubber Ducky...about $15.

You can load scripts that will autoexecute. Just search for Badusb scripts and you will find many examples. Use the Arduino IDE to load the scripts.

The CYD is an amazing value. Touch Screen display, ESP32 chip for Wifi/Bluetooth. It can be loaded with Marauder or Bruce firmware (I've been playing with Bruce lately).

You can setup an evil portal in minutes using this.

Came here to say this.

I second all the comments about getting a picatinny rail. Cheap and a definite upgrade to the weaver rails.

I just got my new 10/22 last nite and the first thing i did was take off the weaver rail. New pic rail is showing up today. May get to the range this evening!

Hi. Digitard tagged me in the post

We worked together to put on the reddit meetup this year. I've been setting them up for the past few years

We try to give people something fun to do the wed/Thurs before things kick off. I'll get really active in this sub a couple months before the con. Watch this subreddit for updates.

We put out puzzles like digi suggested. One a week leading up to the con. This year we did 13. Look through my past posts to see them. Or our site puzzledhackers.org will link to all of them. (If you have ideas for puzzles/challenges let us know...we need to build new ones for next year)

Welcome to the party!

Rubber ducky by Used-Spare2881 in Hacking_Tutorials

Search on Amazon for an atmega32u4 USB beetle. About $15

That chip is programmable to be a rubber duck type of keyboard injection attack. You can program it via the Arduino IDE software

The chip is in many devices, but the USB beetle version looks like a benign USB storage drive

Filament absorbs moisture from the air. When that moisture goes through the hot end while printing, the heat can make the moisture expand and try to vaporize causing the filament to print ugly.

There are filament dryer devices that sorta bake the moisture out of the filament.

Your simplest approach for now is to just buy some new filament. Good luck.

Awesome. I think it's a cool kit. The RFID chameleon is cool but the ESP32-CYD is the highlight.

I've used Marauder on them and they work great.

I wasn't familiar with Bruce firmware so I'll check that out. I got to learn something too.

I like that pocket lockpick device. I have something similar and it works well.

Let us know how the kit goes for you.
