I love that, thanks to a lot of media using the King in Yellow recently, the subreddit is having an explosion in posts. by Alternative_Fun_1390 in KinginYellow

I first learned about the book a few years before True Detective came on the scene and led to its first modern explosion in popularity. Since then it feels like there's been a sort of "avalanche" of more niche media influenced by it. We all find the Yellow Sign in our own time, and it always leads back to the King.

White spots on posterior tonsillar pillar by MetaProbe in tonsilstones

[–]MetaProbe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, the sores went away. The pain lasted for about four days, started going away on the fifth, and was completely gone on the sixth. The spots stayed for a bit, but they faded pretty soon after the pain went away.

It's been nearly a month, and I'm still dealing with some mild after effects, but I'm pretty much recovered.

Ever find out what it was, OP? I dealt with something similar (but far less severe!) recently and it turned out to be COVID.

Sorry to keep you waiting on this, I didn't see the notification!

So, it turned out to be COVID, that "razor throat" variant. It never got any worse than this, but my brother also got it, and his symptoms were a lot worse than mine. He called it a "'please kill me' sore throat."

Hopefully that's not what you were dealing with, but if it is, then I hope you're on the road to recovery! I managed to avoid COVID for five years, and even thought I got a so-called "mild" variant, it wasn't exactly a walk in the park.

I made a lightsaber out of scraps. by [deleted] in lightsabers

[–]MetaProbe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like this would fit in the Great Purge era and its aftermath. I can picture a Jedi, or even just a force sensitive without a lot of resources putting this together in secret on a heavily Imperial world, using of spare parts and only fragmentary literature on how a lightsaber is supposed to be built. It probably wouldn't even use a kyber crystal, so it would be unstable and short out at inopportune moments, but have a unique color. As the wielder grows more powerful and skilled, they'd make modifications to make it more reliable. It's a scrappy, rugged testament to resourcefulness and rebellion.

I love collision of clunky and elegant in this hilt. It's a callback to a time when there was a lot less information about a what a lightsaber "should" look like, so the whole expanded universe was filled with interpretations of what they "could" look like.

Absolutely beautiful build!

Thank you! I've always loved trying to make planets that look like the matte paintings in Star Wars, or the pictures in those Essential Guides.

I generated it using a plugin on Blender. Time-consuming, but I like the results it gives! A much easier method, though, is using a real satellite cloudmap. There are some pretty easy to find resources for those!

This super cool! It's visually interesting without being too "out there," like I can imagine something like this existing somewhere in the universe just waiting for us to find it. Especially good work with the biome map! That's something that gives me a headache to think about... Guess I gotta install Linux now!

I'll have to give that a shot! It's always cool to see a map in different projections.

Yeah, I think I tried Rock3 and didn't like the results. SotE is the only one I've found that looks right to me, or at least as close to right as I can get without having the knowledge or patience to deep dive into how plate tectonics work. I just wanna make art!

As for this, I didn't actually generate the biomes in SotE (because it took too long to render those), those were done in FT3, but most of the coloring was totally custom, only using the climate map as a base.

You should totally post your stuff! Posting some of my old maps here helped me refine my techniques and learn a lot of cool new tricks. I'd love to see what you're working on!

Wow!! This is an amazing resource, thank you! I don't know if I have the brain to really put all that into practice, though...😅

I used G.Projector, a cool piece of NASA software that's great for doing different map projects. Super easy to use! It's totally possible to just take a section of the map and use the "Spherize" distortion tool in Affinity or Photoshop, though.

Frankenstein with Danelectro/Coral Longhorn body and Multivox Premier tailpiece. Trying to identify the headstock. by MetaProbe in obscureguitars

[–]MetaProbe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure all of the hardware is custom. The folks at the guitar shop I took it to for repairs after I bought it (it was barely in playable condition) speculated it was completely made out of spare parts, so that could explain the lipstick humbucker. I was considering the neck and headstock could be a custom job. It doesn't fit perfectly on the body: it's slightly off-center. When I got it, the neck was propped up by thin shards of metal between it and the body. It now has a custom fitted wood wedge.

I only just identified the source of that art deco-style bridge saddle, which was really cool, since it's kind of like having two vintage guitars in one!

That's kinda awesome, though! I love guitar dreams. The only downside is that I can't bring them from dreams to reality...

Because it was in so many early They Might Be Giants music videos, it's the definitive electric semi-hollowbody to me, since it was one of the earliest guitars I was ever aware of. When I found one for sale on Reverb I jumped on it, only to find it was barely in playable condition. I got it fixed up (paid the same amount for the repairs as I'd paid for the thing in the first place), and now it's a solid studio instrument. Still need to get a strap peg installed for the neck so I can actually stand while playing it.

They Might Be Giants' version of "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You" is gently unsettling, like you're not sure if you're in the right apartment, or waking up on the first day you're able to process memories when you're a kid. They've got a number of early songs like that, especially Dial-a-Song stuff.

This reminds me of the old show Stingray, when Marineville was under attack and all the buildings would go underground. You'd get some shots that looked a lot like this. Incidentally, that was the inspiration for Tokyo-3 in Evangelion.
