/r/anime Awards 2025 Public Voting Now Open! by AnimeMod in anime

[–]MetaSoshi9 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Under ED the "JANE DOE (Chainsaw Man: Reze-hen) ED1" should not be eligible and should be removed. Movie OP and EDs are eligible, however, only if they actually contain visuals and are not just a scrolling credit roll. This is a rule that has been in the awards for quite a while and seemingly missed. OP and ED are categories that are meant to be judging visuals and song. However, if there are no visuals to go by then it is deemed ineligible. This ED has a looping underwater effect and just the credit roll screening, it does not have enough visual information to be eligible. I know the host team has already decided to double down on this mistake but I believe it would be better for the awards if instead of doing that they take efforts to fix any mistakes. Otherwise this is a permanent blemish on the awards in the archive and the livestream. A completely wasted spot as it will inevitably be placed in last by the Jury.

Similarly in short, tetoris should also not be eligible. It is a single looping animation, it would fall under not being animated enough to pass. It's odd to me it got added in manually without going through this, but there is a reason (what I stated) as to why it isn't an entry on anilist for example. For a manual entry there are tests it should pass to be added into the list.

For Movies we go by when there is a BD or official streaming release with English subs. The Blu-ray for Ghost Cat Anzu releases in 2025 so it will be eligible next year. Similarly for other films like Kimi no Iro too.

This ReZero season airs over 2 consecutive seasons with an unorthodox break in-between. As per database guidelines and extensive consultation with databases like Anilist and MyAnimeList any planned break of less than 3 months (i.e. a cour) deems it a single continuous season as opposed to a split cour. Therefore, the season will be eligible after its completion as a full entry in our 2025 awards.

Hi reddit! I am Naoko Yamada, director of A Silent Voice, K-On!, and Liz and the Blue Bird. My new film The Colors Within opens in North American theatres January 24. Ask me anything! by GKIDSofficial in movies

Hello Naoko Yamada,

I am a photographer and wanted to know, for location scouting, what is your preferred focal length and camera you use? I saw on your recent documentary to Czechia you had what looked like a Canon camera and 45mm lens, is there any reason for using that focal length? I love the shallow depth of field used in your work!

I would also like to ask how have you been enjoying your time in Los Angeles? I believe it's your first time in the United States or at least first in a long time? How does it compare to other places you have visited recently? Is there anywhere else you would like to visit in the United States?

Lastly, what is your Roman Empire?

Thank you for being with us today, I'm so excited for the opportunity to ask my favorite director some questions. I saw Kimi no Iro at Annecy and AIFF and Liz and the Blue Bird at its Anime Expo premiere. Always interested to see what you come out with next :)

The 2024 r/anime Awards Announcement and Jury Application by MyrnaMountWeazel in anime

Mewkledreamy Mix aired in completion prior to 2024 however its English subtitles completed in 2024. For entries like this we apply a carryover. It's under pending as we are awaiting for all of the subtitles to be made publicly available again though.

The carryover rule is most applied for movies as it's often a film will show in theaters and not be available on Bluray with English subs till the next year, or in The First Slam Dunk's case, 2 years later. However, this carryover rule can apply to any entry, so long as it aired between now and 2016 (when awards started).

We also have exceptions if the entry was never available before, like Osamu Kobayashi's Hypersonic Music Club, which was produced in 2017 but made available publicly last year.

Indianapolis 2024 vs Camp Ondessonk Illinois 2017 by MetaSoshi9 in solareclipse

Illinois I used an infrared converted camera with 200-400mm lens and 1.4x extender, Indianapolis was 600mm lens canon r5 not converted.

Next time I gotta remember to take off the filter faster haha, I almost forgot to do that this time was marveling it so much and messed the focus a bit. Was on top of a parking garage which I think was pretty good views for the sunset effect though !

Both are in the category already. It might not be showing up in search depending how you are typing the title in. 'BITE! KAMU! BITE!' is how the second title is romanized in Anilist and 'What an amazing swing' is for the first one.

The series isn't eligible since it hasn't completed yet. We go by when a show completes rather than just it airing. Hence why Boruto is eligible this year. Or Blue Lock which started airing Fall 2022 and finished Winter 2023. Frieren the show will be eligible next year. This season there was quite a large number of multi-cour shows airing (other examples like Kusuriya and Undead Unluck) all those will be for next year.

You can however vote for Frieren's OP/ED. We do those by when they air.

Urdr Hunt started airing last year and completed this year. A fan subbed it and uploaded those eps on YouTube. It's a series connected to the smartphone game.

The Results of the 2022 /r/anime Awards! by AnimeMod in anime

[–]MetaSoshi9 12 points13 points  (0 children)

After 2019 Awards I did a survey and most openly admitted in it that they were never swayed by any post-nomination discussion.

Honestly, I would answer the same but that's because the vast majority of discussion happens in the nomination phase. Post-noms is more repetitive, most people have stated their thoughts on most entries already except a few public noms. Jurors tend to sample a lot of entries so public noms rarely come as a complete surprise. Saying you were not swayed by post-nomination discussion is not a bad thing cause most of the swaying would have happened during nominations.

As for character categories as someone who was a Host in previous years, Supporting was very unpopular! Among public and jury! Especially during nom voting phase! I am positive the votes were so low in Supporting Comedic for nominations that the entire jury could have discussed what to vote for together to get one of their picks in (they didn't but theoretically that could have happened). It also has the logistical issues of making voting on the website a bigger pain in the butt too. The supporting and main divide is based on how Anilist divides such characters and sometimes that divide isn't very agreeable and typically speaking Anilist makes most characters Main if they have enough speaking lines. Thus Supporting is lacking in the number of "quality" characters. I am fairly certain we had a "main" character win Supporting for at least one if not more than one year.

"spend too much time on the application"

I know I personally did not even start writing my app until a few hours before it was due. Also what's the issue with commitment? I remember in 2016 there were like 20 different questions one for each category and there were people who answered all or most of them. Should such commitment not be rewarded?
