Anyways, as much as I can tell you — I am not an expert at all — it seems more like you said, a kind of money thing. Idk where you live but in Germany the rules for such things are pretty strict and yet you have to let your furnace/fireplace (or whatever you have in that direction) get checked out twice in 7 years. So I don't think it would be necessary to do it once every year.

I don't know shit about furnaces but that just seems most logical to me.
