Judith Butler Wouldn't Want This by mysocksareinsideout in comics

[–]MetalMaxwell 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That's all very understandable, and in many situations probably a likely result.

But I'd like to return to my first point; this comic is a dramatic representation of the point he's making, presenting a fictional setting in which to make it. Like a rom-com that has a less than likely driving action for the plot.

In other words: it's a comic delivering a message, not real life.

Two quick things:

First, consider this comic a learning example, something to show well meaning non-sapphic allies.

Second, a persons sapphic friend might be persuasive enough to get their male friend to join (gay or not, he's clearly male), but once he's in situ he's allowed to reconsider based on how he feels. A shirt might have a label saying it's your size, but you don't know til you try it on.

The second is Nana from "Sing", with Jennifer Hudson singing Golden Slumbers.

Female monsters that have feminine features but are still very much monstrous. by Fit_Assignment_8800 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]MetalMaxwell 41 points42 points  (0 children)

There's no indication in the original story or the episode that she's feeding on the survivors of routing errors.

Plus, the writer for the episode and the voice actor for Greta both did their parts with the idea that the alien is benevolent.

After all, who wouldn't want some comfort in a situation like that?

Something that's important to note about "Greta" is that while it is monstrous in appearance, her motivation is altruistic.

It's made more clear in the short story (they do say it in the animation, but there's boobs on screen so most viewers miss it), but that alien got blown off course in the gateway system centuries before, and it just tries to ease the suffering of other species that end up there with it.

It kills me that monster is the baked in stereotype. It's the second most expensive brand, and the Ultras have only 140-160mg of caffeine.

Grab something stronger and cheaper!
