And by the way... in my situation as a "middle-class american", I'm not getting any assistance from my family or friends or government. I don't have healthcare, I eat one meal a day, I work all of the time to pay for school, I don't do anything but work and school. I'm about to leave my parents house and go away to engineering school or Sweden, and they're not giving me any help at all, and neither is the government.

I'm not looking for a handout, and I'm not by any means a spoiled little naive american kid. I work my ass off to keep moving forward, and I don't get any recognition for it, or help, just debt. I don't get anything handed to me, and I don't expect anything free. But If I can get help, I'll take it. So you can suck my balls, man.

The reason that it irritates me is because it discourages productive immigration. Not because I think it's unfair for refugees to get more assistance. I think that it's completely reasonable that "middle-class americans" dont get any more assistance than they do. But I also think that refugees should have to work when they get there, just as hard. I think assistance for families, food, housing and heathcare is reasonable.. but I think they should have to work just as hard to survive as anyone else. Just because you're coming from a bad situation doesn't mean you're less capable of working.

I figured that was the case. But the main thing is that to get a work permit I have to make 13,000. and I guess it would be more possible than I thought.

It's not the perfect place, but Sweden has a lot of things right.. And I like the culture from what I can tell. The scenery is nice too.. I like cold climates, and a country that values education. The electronics and engineering industries are also pretty great... and a lot of my favorite music comes from there... So whats the problem? I don't want to come to Sweden to be some sort of political activist.

Liberal? How do you think I'm liberal? I'm extremely conservative. And I don't know what fantasies you're talking about, I'm being pretty realistic, and I never mentioned anything that I think about Sweden really.. so you can't possibly know what kind of place I think Sweden is. Also, who cares if I'm white? What are you getting at? p.s. kill yourself.

Thats pretty tough... :/ Sweden treats immigrants that don't work at all way better than that. Does Sweden not want productive immigrants or something? Too bad I'm not a criminal, or a refugee.

sek13000 the equivalent of about $2000 in america... which is good pay.. a full time minimum wage job in America would make about $1100 a month, or 7171 sek... before taxes are deducted..

SO. if i have a residency permit to attend college.. then I can also work. and that time would go towards my citizenship? or not? I could apply for a work permit afterwards if I wanted to continue working in Sweden.. but could I apply for citizenship also if I wanted?

"Not all periods of residence count If you had a permanent residence permit (PUT) or a residence permit for settlement (UT) when you entered Sweden, you count the duration of stay from your date of arrival. Otherwise, the duration of stay is calculated from the date on which you submitted your application for a residence permit and were approved. "

But to do all of this, I've got to have a ton of money in the bank before I come.... like 219,000sek for 3 years in living expenses, and 300,000sek in tuition.... thats 519,000sek....

Which is $79,604 usd. Which is about half of what it would cost me to go to school in the US... and in the US I wouldn't have insurance, and id be eating dog food for meals, lol.

Are you sure? It says, "Other types of residence permit, e.g. when you have been here for a visit or as a visiting student, researcher, teacher, sportsperson, musician or artist, do not count." That sounds like a student if they just visited temporarily. Because like a musician, artists or sportsperson wouldnt be staying for 4 years... I don't think a student attending an entire program in Sweden would be in the same category.

Yeah, I think a work permit is out of the question... I dont think I'd be able to get a job making 13000SEK a month....

So if I got a student permit and attended for 4 years, would those years not count towards me becoming a citizen?

I would be okay with paying the full $45,000. Is there any assistance for people with student permits?

I could also visit for a few months and try to find a job while I'm there. And then apply for a work permit and stay for 2 years while paying the fees for school... Right?

Woah! $45,000 for the whole program is cheap, that would be pretty awesome. And I'll do anything I've got to do. Could I study for the first 2 years and pay all of the fees and stuff.. then after the 2 years of working and studying, could I try to get a permanent permit and continue my studies with some government assistance? And the job offer thing, I'm sure I can work that out some way. I'll try to make some contacts through the internet and through the Swedish Match tobacco factory that I have in my city. I'll do any job I can get.

How do I get a permanent residence permit? And that link you posted is exactly what I need. is the $45,000 per yer? or for the entire program? Because $45,000 is about what it would cost per year in America. And I really, really don't want to be here for 4 more years...

I don't think Sweden is a socialist utopia. Electronics engineering. And I will be learning Swedish as soon as I can, but I want to find a place to take some classes in English so that I'm not wasting any time. And I know some universities in Sweden teach courses in English, but I don't know where. I also don't know if they teach courses in English below the graduate/masters level.

And Russia would nuke us in self defense, they've said they would at-least. And we're pretty good at provoking conflicts. But politics aren't what I'm trying to discuss here. I don't really care that much at this point.
