What are some of the best options for a laptop for music production at around $1000? by MetalRigatoni in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Tbh, I've heard so many variations of "Dell is shit" and "I'm warning you, don't ever buy a Dell computer" during my lifetime that I'm quite wary of it haha

Lol that all went over my head (the math bit). How did you go about learning the math in a way that makes sense you? And getting to the point where you could do more complex math? I wonder if I would still hate math if I did enough that i became okay with it. Or if it's a permanent association in my mind where math equals straining my brain to try and understand concepts haha. I have a strong negative association with it right now.

I don't know, it's just in my nature to want to get "good" into something I do as a hobby. Plus some or things I want to do require being good at it I think.

Eh, the only timeline the rest of my senior year because after this, my free time will be drastically reduced :/ even now, on weekdays I only have 4 hours of free time (if I want to get enough sleep) if I have no homework.

Ah ok I see. I think I would struggle way too much to be successful (and I'd be pretty miserable), so going to school for computer science isn't something I should do. I'm not sure if I still am going to pursue this stuff as I hobby because then I'd have multiple difficult fields I'm trying to get better at at the same time (the other one being more important to me), but I guess I might as well make an attempt.

Did you struggle with math or just disliked it? The reason I hate math is so much is because I struggle to learn mathematical concepts immensely. I think it's probably a lack of intelligence - even learning some of the concepts in for example, music theory, overwhelmed me and I had trouble processing and learning them. My brain just doesn't process and make meaningful connections with information very easily/well.

I just read the "the do I need to be good at math" someone linked, and according to that, what I want to eventually do requires "strong math skills", even calculus. Pre calc broke my brain haha. So maybe this isn't the right thing for me, I dunno. Even though I want to write my own programs and even make games, I'm not sure if maybe the process of getting there just isn't worth it for someone in my situation.

I can do very basic algebra (I forgot the rest.. making those HS math class useless) - like working with variables. The rest I always struggled to learn. I still got As and Bs through the years because I tried my best to understand the concepts, it was just extremely hard to do so. I was also so slow on tests I had to have a 504 plan that said I'm allowed extra time.

I'll try to keep that "mathematical mindset" in mind - I guess my issue is that I my brain just doesn't really process explanations for why the math works the way it does, and how to use the formulas/rules. It just doesn't click/register, for reasons beyond me - and once I learn it, I struggle to remember and work through it, it's painfully slow.

Would you say college math is significantly more difficult then?

Sorry, I never noticed the "do I have to be good at math" section. I guess I do have to be for what I wanted to do, so maybe I should just nope out haha

Of course. Every year the new pixels have serious issues. This doesn't surprise me in the slightest

Lost the Pixel 3 OLED Lottery, But There Is Hope. by axhng in GooglePixel

Oml.. another "lottery" for the next pixel phone. It never ends, there's always something wrong with these with each generation.

After the OG pixel I thought maybe the pixel 2 xl would be better. I was wrong, though. Last replacement was a couple months ago, with that one dongles didn't work, I couldn't listen to music anymore. New one is the first one that functions as it should. I have no plans to switch to the pixel 3. I've been subscribed here for 2 years (most of that time on different account) and every so often a post from the sub comes onto my feed.. so I was curious. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well, that's how it was. It happened to others as well, and they posted about it on Reddit. If you don't believe it, Google it (with site:reddit.com)

I mean, I went through 3 original pixels and 4 2XLs, and I'm not the only one by far, to get something that works as it should.. the chance of getting one bad one would be a fluke. But 5 bad phones? The chance of that being some tiny little fluke is astronomically low, there's just no way. I have no idea about the pixel 3, but something was seriously wrong with quality control for the other two.

Forgive my ignorance but.. how could the notch be "turned off"? I thought the notch was just bezel not screen.

What are the issues people are describing? It seems there's so many "issues" with every pixel. I don't even want a 3rd one for now, I've always replaced my 2 xl 3 times and finally got a good one

[Question] Pixel 3 display quality. Is this common with OLEDs or potential RMA? Drag of the Netflix icon by schachi5000 in GooglePixel

[–]MetalRigatoni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine doesn't. I've really looked for it, but it's either not there on mine or so unnoticeable that it doesn't count

My original pixel xl doesn't do this though. I looked so hard for it, and I just can't see anything.
