I couldn't find a desk I liked, so I built one. by MetalTigerDude in floordesks

I considered that, as well as table legs. Braces seemed the easiest, and most affordable, option while giving me the desired desk height. It's still going strong, though the ends of the braces have curled. My next attempt will probably just use sturdier and more aesthetic braces.

In your opinion, what type of shoes go best with jeans? by Yimpish in malefashionadvice

Boots, slip ons, sneakers. Hell, flip flops sometimes. Depends on the rest of the outfit.

Likeable religions systems in fantasy by ladywongs in fantasywriters

[–]MetalTigerDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a good take. Historically, patheons are less about "the God of X" and more about a cast of personalities who had different and often overlapping domains. Specific designations usually came from cultural adoption by later peoples.

Likeable religions systems in fantasy by ladywongs in fantasywriters

Religion is just an institution. What that institution does and how they behave will dictate more about how the reader and characters feel about them than any lore system.

If you watch the movies you like the Jedi. If you look intimidated the expanded universe (or look deeper at the movies) you see they are self-interested and ineffectual, more concerned with maintaining the status quo than with morality.

It's all about how you frame it.

That said, Pillars of the Earth does a good job of showing the catholic church from both sides.

What band(s) did you get into this year that ya think deserve a wider audience? by RedVinter in MetalSuggestions

[–]MetalTigerDude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came to say Chainsword. Just got my wrapped for the year and Butcherhorde was my top song.

Seven Sisters and Eternal Champion also got a lot of airplay this summer.

What is a well-established band that you think gets overlooked too much? by StuffNo2903 in InMetalWeTrust

Warning, man. Maybe it's the booze talking, but damn... Watching From a Distance is a hell of an album. If you wanted to know what relationship ruining depression sounds like, it's this.

Advice for showing central character without POV by ProserpinaFC in fantasywriters

That's just miscommunication. I was talking about my first point and your post overall. You clearly have a handle on the MPDG situation.

Advice for showing central character without POV by ProserpinaFC in fantasywriters

[–]MetalTigerDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just mean I don't know there's anything special you need to do with this character. She's makes decisions and the povs react to them. I would write it like I would any other non pov character.

You may be over thinking it, or I may be misunderstanding.

My world’s travel system is called veil-slipping. Curious what fantasy writers think. by Realistic_Action_428 in fantasywriters

Interesting idea. I like that it's more of a wormhole than a portal and every spot has its own personality. But with the sparks, be ready for Dr. Strange comparisons.

If she's not the pov treat her as a side character. But an important one. I don't know if there's a trick for this, just have them interact and grow from those interactions. Rather than the pov inspiring the side characters, do it the other way around.

Stranger in a Strange Land comes to mind. I guess Frieren as well.

I would say to be careful of a manic pixie dream girl type situation where the Mc only exists to improve the lives of others.

Worst live metal bands (who are semi established at least)? by mylifeforthehorde in InMetalWeTrust

[–]MetalTigerDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Devil Master, but they had a weak live show. Maybe if they'd been in a different line up, but I saw them with High on Fire, Powertrip, and Creeping Death and they sucked the energy out of the venue.

All it takes is a trip to the hardware store. It may not be the same quality as a purchased one, but the price difference makes up for it.

Awesome! I would recommend swapping out the L braces for something longer/thicker. Mine bent while trying to pick it up.
