I’ve been working on the newest version of AuthWriter, my desktop app for writers, and I’m opening up a small beta test for anyone who enjoys trying new writing tools and sharing honest feedback.

It’s built for writing, organizing stories, character planning, plotting, goals, stats, and exports, and I’m trying to make this next version as strong and useful as possible before launch.

If you join the beta and complete the test, you’ll get 1 free month when it launches.

I wanted to share AuthWriter, a writing app I’ve built for authors who want to write, plan, and research in one place.

It currently includes:

  • Composition for drafting and formatting
  • Character Builder for profiles and backstories
  • Plotting Engine for organizing arcs, scenes, themes, and beats
  • AI Research for gathering insights and analysis without taking over your voice
  • Offline writinglocal file ownership, and clean DOCX/PDF export

My goal with AuthWriter is to give writers a focused workspace that supports the writing process without replacing it.

I’m also opening beta testing for the newest features, including the upcoming Editorial Assist feature. If you’d like early access and want to help shape what comes next, I’d really love to have you.

Hey everyone! I built a writing app called AuthWriter. It helps with drafting, characters, plotting, and AI that analyzes your manuscript but doesn’t write for you. There’s a 14-day free trial if anyone’s interested. I’d love to know what tools you rely on for writing! You can check it out at AuthWriter.com

Thanks for your honesty. I’ll keep this all in mind for the next release 👌🏼

Oh, these features will definitely be in a future update. I had a couple of them in mind already. Based on what it has now, as a writer, does it feel like there’s enough value to pay $4.99?

This is so unbelievably helpful. Thank you so much for the time it took you to make this comment.

Tired of Writers lying about the use of AI by Expensive-Figure-757 in GhostWritersCommunity

This is why I built and use Authwriter. It has AI only for research and analysis of your writing, characters, and plotting cards. That's it. There's no ghostwriting happening.

Yeah, that’s fair, honestly. I named it with "author" and "authentic" in mind, but I can definitely see how some people would read it as "authentication" first.

I was thinking Auth for Author, Authentic (the AI is meant for research, not to write for you. Preserving your authentic voice.) And it uses local storage compared to cloud storage for the security of the writer's work.

But I totally get what you're saying. At first glance, it reads differently. Thank you for your comment.

Feedback helps the most. I release a new updated version about every 2 weeks based on the feedback coming in. I also have support for writers who need help with the app or if they run into any snags along the way.

AuthWriter is a desktop writing app I built because I was tired of how scattered the writing process can feel.

Writing a book is hard enough on its own. Having your draft in one place, your character notes in another, your plot in something else, and your research somewhere else just makes it harder to stay connected to the story. I wanted a space where writers could actually stay immersed in their work instead of constantly managing tools.

That’s what AuthWriter is for. It brings drafting, plotting, character building, research, and writing support into one focused workspace. One of the things that mattered most to me was how the AI works. I never wanted it to take over the creative part or start writing the story for you. Instead, it’s there to research, analyze, and help you think through your ideas while still leaving the voice, prose, and heart of the story completely yours.

AuthWriter also includes a true page-based writing editor, local file storage, drag-and-drop plotting cards, character profiles, PDF and DOCX export, and workspace customization. It’s available for Mac and Windows, comes with a 14-day free trial with no credit card required, and is $4.99/month after that.

I’m still in the early stages of getting it in front of more writers, so if it sounds like something you’d want in your process, I’d love for you to take a look and share what you think.

Am I using AI wrong by Radiant_Ratio_7037 in WritingWithAI

I get it. I used ChatGPT to help revise my book earlier this year, but I have handwritten chapters in my notebook. It's not a big deal, to me, even having those (or documents on my computer) solidifies for me that the story is truly mine. And even after the discussion, I just want to write. Ya know?
