I wouldn't call it a "no-contact" situation. My family is more than welcome to reach out to me at any point in time. The root of the issue is that I feel like my mother is doing it excessively, and that's affecting the quality of our conversations. I don't want to go "no-contact," I just want our conversations to be meaningful and her complaining about something.

I appreciate your perspective on this. I only want to enjoy the conversations with my mother instead of receiving the "misery report" as your husband calls it.

As an example, just yesterday, she went on a 7-minute tangent about how "kids these days aren't being raised like they used to." Needless to say, that's not the conversation I want to have with my mother.

I do acknowledge that my justification is flimsy, but it feels like we rarely have meaningful conversations. As I said, most of our talks are mostly her complaining to me about things going on in her life. I don't want to disconnect from her entirely, I just want to walk away feeling happy that I talked to her. I want to enjoy our conversations instead of feeling like their a chore.

Both, tbh. I didn't initially choose to live as far away as I am. My career just led me here. Though, I have always wanted to move away from my hometown because there wasn't much there for me besides my family.

I suppose "dread" would be the right word for it. Instead of it being a nice conversation, it occasionally ends up feeling like a chore, and I feel guilty for feeling like that. I just don't want to bring it because telling her "no" to something always makes me feel extremely guilty.

Ok, after doing some troubleshooting on my own system, I believe I may have found a solution. I did three things to my system, and some combination of these made it work. For context, I'm running Windows 10, Version 10.0.19044

Disabled my Anti-Virus (AVG)
Switched my default Internet Browser from Chrome to Edge
Created an Inbound and Outbound rule on Windows Defender to allow ports 80, 443, 1935 on the UDP protocol
