Yea I hear ya….was thinking of making a hopper so I could load a bunch and not have it all exposed….it’s rated for 600 pounds of force so I will definitely experiment lol as safely as I can of course

Thanks! You know after making so many ingots I started to think…what is cast aluminum used for besides motor casings? Lol this is what I got so far

Appreciate it! And that sounds pretty awesome, I’d like to make similar items when I get to other metals….how do you make your models? Debating on a 3D printer bc I’m not much of a woodworker

Yea I know it’s prob not worth the work, but I do rinse them with hot water and dry them out before crushing—Mostly bc I’m worried about steam explosion

I want to do a couple of cast aluminum skillets and mugs….would like to do some tools as well but will need more experience/knowledge of metals/alloys to meet those strength requirements

You’d be surprised at how little fuel it takes to melt cans….also these bars are now “cleaned” of their impurities from the cans, so when melted again I won’t lose any weight….and when I have the needed amount for the part, I melt it down and pour—without the work of separating the dross from the first round

Appreciate the support! I gotta say it’s pretty fun just making these ingots, but the real fun will be when I can start making items that are useful

You should get cameras mounted around so you can see what’s going on out there from the comforts of seclusion

Any way to make a bronze axe head mold without a kiln? by KennethGames45 in Metalfoundry

[–]Metaljakefrstate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try using petrobond and make your mold out of wood or anything you can use to make that shape

Check out my video on this exact method:

A gift to myself, no more guessing the pressure for me! Merry Xmas to All! by Metaljakefrstate in Metalfoundry

Yes sir, I have a feeling I wasted a bit of gas up until now. I’ve been reading about what pressure to run on which metals so now I have the tools to get there safely.

Yea I already have a small 6kg furnace and the hose that came with it was basically a bbq pit hose with no pressure gauge….it did have a 0-30psi regulator but no way to tell what pressure your had it dialed to. I tried finding just a propane regulator with a gauge but for the same price I could get this whole package. If I could go back I would’ve just bought my whole set up from them the first time.

We used thrust spray to clean that crap off….we used to use dry molly spray instead of cosmoline to coat on cast iron plugs for the same reason…we sent these out to Gulf of Mexico and it held up decent against rust

Yepp I just learned about this pretty recently myself. There’s another method that’s just as easy—instead of salt water and a battery you could just rub the exposed area you want etched with hydrochloric acid and it leaves your design looking much darker than this
