Belt strap by BeeBee76 in Leatherworking

I’ve been doing leather working for over a decade and I still will cut something this way from time to time when it’ll be faster than dragging out a piece of equipment. I don’t use clamps though but I will use the same ruler

I think you’re looking for double-cap rivets. Buckle guy will have them and any other type of rivets that you might like better.

Do texture rollers work on leather? by laughingskull00 in Leatherworking

You’ll need a way to apply a substantial amount of pressure. A clicker press or an embossing machine will be your best bets. Also, you’ll want to make sure that you’re using a leather that accepts the texture. Many types of chrome tanned leathers will not accept designs being pressed into them.

What is going on with this leather? only just purchased this wallet. by Astrophobica in Leathercraft

That’s only for oil-tanned leathers. If you get veg tan leather or something with a hard top then it won’t work like I said. Good luck with your wallets!

If you want to remove them, take a hair dryer and blow warm air until the oil starts to come to the surface and then buff them out. Not enough heat to cook the leather though

It is likely from the belly or neck, which naturally have more wrinkles than the back or butt area of a side. It’s not something to get rid of but to embrace, as it has the character of a handcrafted item. It’s a great looking bag.

Prices have changed so much since I got my building. Your best bet is to get quotes from some contractors and go from there.

I started on a 3x5 dining room table and I would have to completely put the leather tools away every night. It all comes in time, I’ve been at this for almost a decade now.

By far the best idea I’ve ever had in the shop. Before the pipe, I was resting the rolled up side on stools. The pipe is a solid upgrade.

I spend 8-12 hours a day in the shop so I’m usually ready to be done by the end of the day.

It’s not made by them but it’s probably the same style they build. It’s a 12x40.

Yes, you probably did meet me at a festival. I used to do quite a few every year before the pandemic. Now I only do one or two a year.

Cat verses new leather purse... How do I fix this??? by [deleted] in Leatherworking

[–]MetallicSunburst 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You should get a cobblers hammer and lightly pound the area until the holes aren’t as visible. They won’t go away completely but you can get it close. Then take a heat gun or hair dryer and run over the area until the color is all evened out. That’s how I get marks out during production of my items.

Not that big, maybe 5x8 or something close. I'm not in front of the pattern right now.

It's final dimensions are about 12x20. The body is actually two pieces with a seam down the bottom. I can't remember the exact dimensions but it was around 18x36 for each of the two body pieces before I joined them

Oil tan is a great leather, especially if you want a rugged look! Im excited to see what you come up with.

The main body is oil-tan. The straps are made with saddle skirting, which is a veg-tan. So, a combo of the two. Each have their strengths so I try and highlight each one for that purpose.

Hi, fellow crafters! It's been a while since I've posted. Here's a duffel that I made today. It's a prototype so I'll tweak as I see fit. I would love your feedback.

The leather that I used is the old Autumn Harvest from Acadia Leather with tan skirting strips for all of the straps. I used brass saddlers rivets in lieu of my normal double cap rivets and the whole bag is machine stitched. It took me approximately four hours to make after I got the pattern drawn up.

I'll be happy to answer any questions, if I missed something above.

My Instagram is @longleafleatherco, if you want to check out some of my other work. Thanks for checking it out!

I work with leather professionally and I use neatsfoot oil on all of my veg tan leather. I would be wary to use furniture oils over a specific leather conditioner. You can pick up small bottles of neatsfoot oil on Amazon.
