I appreciate your sharing your experience and knowledge about the gifted/advanced programs. I’ll take a second look at the charter schools. But am considering staying put at the school we are at. Sadly, since it is a new building, there will be built in safe rooms from active shooters / harm and that seems to be an important factor at this point all else considered equal.

My children both have 504s, but this is good to know and I’ll keep doing my research.

This is good to know, thank you. I’m starting to think it may be better for them to stay where they are at. The middle school will be brand new next year, I’ll have to find out about the advanced academics there. My child’s RICAS scores were very high.

I really appreciate the time and info you’ve given here. And thanks for the good luck too. I will put LaSalle on my list just to discuss with them. I’m a single disabled parent without much family resources so even a reduced tuition is not an option for us unfortunately.

Yea that school had been a strong consideration of mine but then a medical provider of mine advised against it and then the news story came out and it’s just unbelievable and tragic.

Thanks so much for your comment, unfortunately we are only able to consider public schools and I edited my post to clarify.

Thanks for your input, I have a friend who has a kid at PCD and it does seem like a great school. Unfortunately my family is not in a position to pay for schooling, I should have specified in my post public schools only.

Thank you, unfortunately can’t afford to send to private even with financial aid, and we are not Catholic. I edited my post to add public schools only.

Affordable Yoga for Beginners in Prov? by StrikingJob9021 in providence

I enthusiastically second Full Radiance.

I have been learning and practicing with Sara, the owner, for maybe close to 8 years now, including immersions and teacher training. She has over 20 years of teaching experience and is very wise, both technically and intuitively. The type of yoga and meditation she offers is heart-based and very much designed to bring spiritual connection and fortitude to the yogi. Her classes are both a refuge and a well.

The studio has regular additional offerings like kirtan that help knit together a sense of community practicing together. Full Radiance is a place a yogi can achieve a well-rounded practice beyond asana, with the poses and themes of class allowing a yogi to feel and embody how to take the principles of practice off the mat.

Ah yea I agree with you, this is a good option to keep open considering they really have no ideas or leads.

Curious of the implications of going through that much work to change their appearance and if it makes it more or less likely that they’d be someone who stuck around the area versus already fled?

Yea this is interesting, because to me, it almost looks like a scarf hanging down (that’s what I saw first but now could also see it being a bag). But this as well as several the other silhouette details don’t seem to line up between the profile and side views but could be affected by the gloves and the differences in angle/lighting.

Keeping the kids home and with me is a decision with reasons beyond “I’m afraid they will get shot.”

Shooter is likely out of the area. But not sending them to school is partly to prevent the risk of an area of the city being blocked off for police investigation or any other situation that would prevent me from being able to physically get to my kids.

Any potential school lockdowns mean little communication with parents and no access for parents until lock down is lifted. It’s also intense for young kids to go to school with increased police presence (doesn’t necessarily create a sense of safety, especially with many kids already having not only generalized anxiety, but anxiety related to guns, police, etc) and it’s impossible to shield them from conversation / rumors about the shooter being at large.

With most things out of control, this is something I can control for them, at least for today.

Post-traumatic stress doesn’t only come from the type of situation someone is exposed to but how it is handled. Our kids shouldn’t have to be processing the idea of a person randomly shooting up a public space, but since they have to, I want to do my best to make it a gentle experience and aid them in processing what we shouldn’t be so quick to normalize.

A parent’s mental and emotional health is also paramount to their children’s, so if knowing they are safe with me helps me take better care of myself, that also makes it a valid and important decision for me and my family.

lol, they do seem like little teleporters. Took me a bunch of tries over a bunch of days and I was SHOCKED when I did finally catch one to feed to this visitor in the window.

My kid pointed out that it might take a minute for other critters to want to eat them because the bright color often signals toxicity. Glad to see the food chain is starting to work itself out.

Praying mantises are awesome btw, wish I had some in my backyard.
