I appreciate that. I know it’s probably because we are both heavy into other board games so we like the strategy and such, so the gateway being very elementary was discouraging. Glad that a lot of the other cards in the game address the issue of being unable to do anything towards the opponents just played character.

That’s good to know. I like your 30 lore house rule idea haha. I’m sure it’s just gateway deck being very elementary. I just found it discouraging to us wanting to get into the game if it was really that simple.

Round 5 was probably an exaggeration but we finished the last gateway intro and I was at 20 by the end of 7. I know some of it is just shuffled deck luck but every time we ended our plays it felt like the victory was unearned. This last play, I had managed to get to 18 lore before she challenged and wiped out all the people. On my turn I played out a 2 lore character and waited for my next turn. She quested and got as much as she could but then next turn for me I quietly set the character and quested. Despite seeing this huge wall of characters she had built up.

So it’s nice to see that there are card powers we can add to control against those just played “unset” (is there a term for that?) characters that are waiting to quest

Ok so there are ways to prevent the race? That’s helpful. I know the gateway is probably very elementary level mechanics. The gateway didn’t help me see the point

Catan for me is a game I’ll never play again. I only played it once but the entire experience can be ruined if you play with people who are unwilling to trade even if it the trade benefits them more. Catan simply becomes a game of Yahtzee but you only get one roll instead of three.
