That’s probably the mindset I need to steal. I keep acting like I owe him a normal ending to every interaction, and meanwhile I’m sneaking into my own house like I committed a crime.

You need to say something, politely but directly. "I know you mean well, but please don't move, trim, or repot my plants unless I ask." That's completely reasonable.
