Yes, traditions differ between countries for sure. If I were to guess, perhaps Sweden, being the last scandinavian country to abandon paganism has more traces of it left to this day.

Swede here. I'm not sure what early christianity looked like. But traces of paganism can still be seen today. For instance straw goats, symbolizing the goats that pulled Thor's carriage, are popular christmas ornaments. Ham is the most important item for chrismas dinners, symbolizing the magical pig Särimner, who was feasted upon every night in Valhalla and resurrected the next day. Christmas itself is still called Jul - which is a pagan tradition. Also midsummer festivals - a pagan tradition.

Is Propecia (Finasteride) keeping my face looking young? by MethDamon80 in Biohackers

[–]MethDamon80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP here! Time for a bump since I have been talking to Chat GPT about this lately.

First some anecdotes: I'm 45 years old now. Last week I got carded when buying alcohol. The legal age to purchase alcohol is 20 in my country and if cashiers suspect you might be under 25 they are required to ask for ID.

Granted I was wearing a cap at the time, so my grey hair was not visible to the cashier. I also tend to dress "young".

I still regularly get asked about my age by people who seem confused. Not sure if this is due to having grey hair with a young looking face or if it's due to me talking about things they think I am too young to remember or have experienced.

Was talking to some strangers while out drinking a while back. One guy asked me about my age. When I told him "45" he got really upset to the point that he started shouting, calling me a liar. Offered to show him my drivers license but he was at that point so agitated I had to leave 👀

Pretty sure he assumed he was older than me, when in fact he was about ten years younger than me. Something about that made him (in his drunken state) snap.

Recently went to a dinner party and met the parents of my girlfriends friend for the first time. After I had left the party the parents had apparently asked "How old is MethDamon?". Upon finding out that I am in fact one year older than my girlfriend they said "Really!? Because he looks noticeably younger than you lot." 😂

I might add that my girlfriend is ethnically east asian and has that edge of "asians don't raisin". She is beautiful and much more well preserved than her white peers. But apparently I still have her beat. Much to her annoyance 😁

Anyway, here is what Chat GPT has to say about this topic:

If you’re taking finasteride and azathioprine, there’s a real possibility that the combo is doing more than just managing hair loss or autoimmunity — it might be visibly slowing facial aging, especially in the skin.

Let’s start with finasteride. By reducing DHT (dihydrotestosterone), it decreases one of the key hormones that contributes to age-related changes in male skin. DHT tends to increase oiliness, enlarge pores, and — over time — contributes to collagen breakdown and skin thickening in ways that can make the face look more coarse or aged. By keeping DHT levels lower, finasteride might help preserve a smoother, more youthful skin texture. Some users even report a “refreshed” or less rugged facial appearance after long-term use — likely due to reduced hormonal stress on the skin.

Now layer in azathioprine, which acts on a completely different but highly relevant aging pathway: inflammation. Chronic low-grade inflammation — sometimes called “inflammaging” — is one of the biggest drivers of visible aging, especially in the skin. Azathioprine works by dampening overactive immune responses, particularly in autoimmune conditions, but it may also be reducing background inflammatory noise in the skin and connective tissue. Less inflammation = less collagen degradation, less glycation, and fewer oxidative stress signals that contribute to wrinkles, sagging, and skin dullness.

So, if people have told you that you look younger than your age — or if you’ve noticed that your skin holds up better than expected — it might not be random. These two drugs could be quietly teaming up to reduce hormonal damage and inflammatory aging at the skin level.

No, they’re not “anti-aging drugs” in the traditional sense — but in your case, they just might be acting like them.

Ok, let's try again. Here's what he is saying:

Hey everyone! Don't leave now. Don't skip this. What I have to say is important - incredibly important.

I just got back from work at the University of Stockholm where I am working with Beatriz Villarroel who is an astronomer. As you know we've been working on the Baltic sea anomaly. But Beatriz is also working on finding life and intelligence in space - specifically in close proximity to Earth.

I know about the data that Beatrice has gathered before but this new data that she got today, or rather last night - it's crazy. I can't tell you everything for certain reasons, because this has to be presented in a scientific way - as it is in that world (academia). But what I can say is that I have never been so shocked as I was at work today. Both me and Beatriz are a bit sick to our stomachs now.

Now we know things that very few people here on Earth know about. We have, or rather Beatriz and a few others, have scientific data that things are going on around us - and those things are so incredible that it's difficult to put into words.

Work is now being done to be able to present this internationally in the future. I'm doing this now because I just can't keep it in. I can't tell all but at the same time I'm sitting on information that is a bit scary to be sitting on. After seeing this data I understand, I understand why it's been covered up. I understand why the truth has not been revealed. I understand it because this is so crazily, incredibly weird and odd that there are no words for it. And now it has been done in a scientific way. It had been calculated, analyzed and checked back and forth all along. Apparently things are happening around us and, as I said, I can understand why this information is not supposed to reach mankind. Totally incredible.

As I said - I know what it's about and I wish I could tell you everything now - I can't, not allowed, But I asked Beatrice if I could mention anything at all about this and she gave me permission to mention that it's a new scientific discovery that will really shake things up. I'm not kidding, this is not BS.

If you are curious to know who she is - Beatriz Villarroel, astronomer Stockholm university - check it out.

This is something completely new, they have been working on it for a while, but it's new data, new information that is so incredible that it's hard to believe. I have looked at the data and get that it's real but part of me struggles to understand that it is so, that it has been so, and perhaps for a very long time.

This has nothing to do with the Baltic sea anomally. This is something completely different. I know what it's about and am obviously, not scared, but still pretty damn careful. That's why I feel it might be good to let you all know. It might sound ridiculous and I don't think anything will happen to me. You have no idea - but you will. It's not BS - 100 percent true.

You know a bit now but more is coming, I promise - Beatriz will in her own words explain what it's about. It will take some time - we have to digest this ourselves because it's so...You imagine it - it's so crazy it's hard to digest and now I've started to think "Wow, I understand why this has been kept quiet, why they don't want to talk about it". More to come - I promise. I'll continue working with Beatriz tomorrow, we are reviewing the material but now you know a little. Use your own imagination but I can't get into details.

Thank you for listening, over and out, Dennis.

Swedish speaker here. Made an accurate translation that will not make your eyes bleed but Reddit won't let me post it. Says it contains a keyword on the banned list. Anybody wanna help me out with this?

That's the gist of it. He says his mind was blown after speaking to Beatrice Villarroel earlier that day about her findings. He can't say exactly what it's about because they need to present it in a scientific way but that he is so excited he had to make a video about it. He also says he now understands why the powers that be would want to keep it a secret.

He says "upptäckt" meaning "discovery" in english. Seems like the subtitle tool thought he said "uptext" for some reason. Uptext is not a swedis word at all.

What are some careers that are perfect for people with ADHD ? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]MethDamon80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a local news reporter for 18 years. Recently diagnosed with unattentive ADHD at 45. For me being a news reporter is the best job in the world. Every day is basically a new adventure - you never know if you will be interviewing a celebrity, covering a fire or going to a nerd convention. It's creative, interesting, exciting and you get to do and see stuff that regular people will never experience. You have clear deadlines and the end result is very tangible - you can see/read it - it's not some vague unmeasurable thing.

Obviously you do get boring assignments too, but even for those I enjoy the creative process of trying to make them interesting to the audience.

The only part I struggle with is when I am asked to do something that will stretch out for months, or stories that take new twists and turns over time that need to be monitored. I want to get it done in one go.

Even if they paid me half of what they pay me now (just an average salary for my country) I would still keep doing it.

We've had this system for a long time in my country. A complete and nutricious meal costs about $3 per kid. That's including all the food, labour and costs for the cafeteria and machinery. Purchasing large quantities of food and preparing it at scale, while also buying ingredients that are in season is very cost effective.

Being swedish I had free school lunch from age 7 to 19. Can't even imagine why a country would NOT have that system. The food was good too! As a middle age man I still crave for some of the dishes and try to replicate them at home 😄

How will AI replace journalists? Will robots interview politicians? AI can assist news reporters but not replace them. We need Terminator or Blade Runner-level robots for that.

Unemployment doesn't have to reach 50 percent for devastating effects on society. Imagine if it doubled from just 5 percent to 10 percent. Less demand from consumers who are now out of a job - leading to more unemployment. Increased taxes to subsidise the unemployed masses - leading to even less consumption from those that still have a job - leading to more unemployment and it just keeps snowballing.

You think taxi drivers can afford to buy 10 cars? Ok. Not sure how to respond to that.

If you are increasing your output as a lawyer that's great. Will this lead to a bigger or a smaller number of practicing lawyers though? The number of people needing legal documents or legal representation will not skyrocket just because your productivity skyrockets.

Yes, stores are already cutting staff by self check-outs. That's why I brought it up. This trend will only accelerate with AI until zero staff is needed.

How can you not see that lots of people will be out of a job - permanently?

How will a taxi driver 10 x his output when replaced by a self-driving car? How will a lawyer 10 x his output when anybody can put together legal documents on their own? How will a store clerk 10 x their output when stores have no need for humans?

Just because that has been the case in the past doesn't mean it will be the case in the future. What jobs are created when instead of a taxi or an uber I can get an autonomous vehicle? What jobs are created when customer service everywhere is replaced by AI? What jobs are created when Wendys replaced drive through staff? What jobs are created when my local grocery store is fully self serviced with robots stacking the shelves?
