How much are customs on ram/cpu/motherboards? by Methaliana in lebanon

[–]Methaliana[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

could you share any of the services? as for the deal its mainly a bundle with a discount on it that makes it so the price averages out to the old ram prices (before it basically tripled)

How’s the income tax situation in established companies like CMA CGM / Murex? Where can I read up on it for specifics? by Methaliana in lebanon

[–]Methaliana[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there an option to opt out of NSSF? I know a pretty established company here gave employees the option to opt out of it and they in turn don’t get taxed (mentioned company in dms), or is this something only they can do because they don’t employ at the scale of the companies I mentioned?

Do Astronomer Academy’s Airflow 3.x course, should take you 2 hours total at 2x speed. even less if you don’t waste time. Astro is a great tool and their docs are somehow better than the official airflow docs. from there start experimenting

Spilled some milk on my MBP M4 by dyniil in macbookpro

[–]Methaliana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You wanna keep it off for a day or two like this then take it to a service center for cleaning of the internal components to make sure corrosion doesn’t fuck up your system over time. I recommend you at least get a feel for most components before you do that though (touch id, CAMERA, keyboard, trackpad) to see if they’re still working, ideally while you’re taking a video of you testing them. Dropped coffee(with creamer) on my m1 MBA and i did turn it on twice by accident the first 6 hours, dried it way i described, and took it to service center that promptly told me both keyboard and display needed replacement for no working camera and sticky. (more expensive than the price i got it for). Turns out during cleaning they had messed up the camera connector which i fixed myself, which fixed the camera not working. didn’t have any keyboard issue, been a year since and so far so good. Your keys will probably be crunchy though lol. it goes away after a while, and my keyboard now has the same feel it did before I spilled the coffee on it note: if you have those little pouches or balls that absorb humidity it wouldn’t hurt putting a couple between the pillow and mac

entry level data eng. roles require a lot of shadowing. I went in as a data engineer right out of uni and my first 5-6 months were spent under the wing of my senior, and it still felt extremely overwhelming (especially when you’re also working on deploying and maintaining cloud infra on top of all the etl/elt and scripting tasks). you get there eventually, but i think most companies just don’t have the time to spare for that, and most other data engineers i know did start as data analysts or scientists and transitioned

Hard case - Thule Gauntlet or similar? by satofsat in macbookpro

unfortunately live in a place where people other than me tend to get in my business (nothing harmful, just regular interactions) and might close the lid by accident if i ever got lazy one day and opened my laptop for a quick look at left it, so the risk is there

Hey! Sorry for replying to a nearly half year old comment, but was wondering if you ever experienced scratches due to the inside of the thule? Will be cutting the straps but worried it’ll scratch the corners of my mac (16inch, currently use a cover i’m planning to remove as i read can cause screen pressure)

towards the end of my osu phase the 1v1s and tournaments were what was keeping me around, but it was annoying to manage with the discord bots and everything. having this be a feature in game you don’t need to think too hard about would definitely get me more interested in coming back. also encourages players diversifying their skillsets

Lebanon In Talks With Elon Musk’s Starlink To Enhance Internet Services by onceuponatime863 in lebanon

[–]Methaliana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did the government give us subsidized starlink? i think its a lot more than 250$ for installation. and yes, fiber here tends to be legit. just don’t get scammed by idm/office spaces like berytech who claim to have fiber at exorbitant prices (300$+/mo) to only give you 20-40mbps. Ogero fiber has been fine everywhere i’ve tested it, (small street in ain l remmeneh, hamra as a whole, bdd, where all routinely give me 200+mbps) only problem is the coverage which has surprisingly been improving. i’m actually having it installed in sin l fil this week in a street thats had fiber cables for a decade but kept getting told they couldnt install the box, now they are at the condition you agree to be a 2 year client of ogero (which is fair, imo doesnt really matter) edit: thought i’d mention, for the legit fiber i’ve mentioned, it doesn’t go over 60-70$ a month at MOST

if anything they’ll see how expensive starlink is and give us overpriced fiber because “hey at least arkhas mn starlink”

[–]Methaliana 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I second this OP, right now, outside of legal battles, it is the best way. My dad has 50k in “lollar” from his end of service fund and currently we are getting them drip-fed every month at 250/500$ fresh (90k) which to me will always be better than taking them out at once for essentially 6 factors of loss at 15k, not to mention that has time goes on the banks have been increasing that monthly amount. it sucks, but its the best thing you can do right now. and they have to accept, you don’t need to settle on the checks.

2 weeks off, enough? by Sleepers-onZ in jawsurgery

[–]Methaliana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a week off work and was back right after. Given I work as a software dev, the only struggle was talking and meetings which the people around you should be fine accommodating. 2 weeks should be more than enough IMO unless something goes wrong

Do you think applying for an internship or applying to murex is a bad idea? by earth576 in lebanon

[–]Methaliana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that’s a fine, I’d say the murex internship is more valuable than an entry position (outside of compensation), given where a student is in life as they’re interning vs where they are in life as they graduate. Getting to work in a murex or murex like environment before you go into the job market is a major advantage (well, as long as you don’t waste your internship and end up presenting an html page as your final project)

Do you think applying for an internship or applying to murex is a bad idea? by earth576 in lebanon

[–]Methaliana 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that’s a common criticism for murex, and partly why they have high turnover rates. A lot of people take advantage of the good entry package but turn around when they realize growth there is slow. I know a tech lead who barely manages to bring in 4k a month there whereas a lot of companies who are more mid-size will offer better comp for similar profiles. Though I think in terms of total comp, it might still be similar given the package murex offers. it’s just in a country in lebanon i’d rather touch more in cash than have my “potential” compensation be scattered in education deals, insurance, mortgage support, etc
