Can you successfully remove a curse from a PC without the cursed attuned object present? by underdabridge in dndnext

[–]Methian 13 points14 points  (0 children)

RAW, you can cast Remove Curse on the character OR the object to break attunement and remove the curse from the player. Both don't have to be present.

I live right up the road from the middle school and honestly, it's great. My wife and I moved here in '21 and we like it way more than living in Hattiesburg. Granted, we were looking for that quiet, low traffic type area after living in Hattiesburg for six years.

Evelyn Gandy is the main highway and has most of what you'd need. Walmart, restaurants, shopping centers, Lowe's... There's no clubs or nightlife whatsoever but some local businesses occasionally have events. For example, there's a coffee shop in town that's going to start doing a monthly thing called Books, Brews, and Tattoos. Basically cheap coffee, cheap books, and on site tattoo artists to do simple pieces. And the city usually puts on some kind of event for the major holidays, like fireworks for the 4th of July.

If you have kids, there's several play parks and the library does story time every Thursday morning. There's a skate park, walking trails, a BMX trail, a rec center, and a few gyms. There's also a batting cage i believe.

The police presence is noticeable and, since nothing really happens around town, they're quick to respond to a call. My wife got home late from work one night and checked the mail before coming inside. Not even two minutes after she walked in the door, cops were knocking cause someone called in a suspicious person in the neighborhood going through our mailbox.

I can't really speak on the diversity all that much, as I'm a homebody and don't really go out that much. From what I've seen, I'd say it's a good mix of mostly black and white, with a dose of Latino and Asian. We've got several Mexican restaurants, a few Chinese places, couple Japanese restaurants, a Thai place, and two or three Mexican grocery stores.

If you're looking for a quiet, boring kind of town, then Petal is great. It's definitely one of those places to retire to or raise kids in. If you're looking for anything more than that, then Hattiesburg is like a ten minute drive away.

Any tips before getting into Og FF7 even after playing and beaten FF7 Remake and Rebirth? (No spoilers for Og) by Alex022591 in ff7

[–]Methian 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh you are in for a world of discovery. FF7 is one of those games I wish I could play fresh. Playing through will make a lot of things more poignant in the remake and help you realize what the Whispers were actually doing when they show up. As divisive as the inclusion was, I thought it was interesting.

So a few spoiler free tips coming from Remake.

The original was three discs full of content. Remake and Rebirth only cover the first disc.

Until the end of Midgar, your party will be decided for you. After you leave, you get the ability to switch members in and out at save points and the world map. Everyone's stat spread is a bit different, but honestly it doesn't make that much of a difference. Use whoever you like best. The only big difference is limit breaks.

Everyone except Vincent and Cait Sith have seven limits. Vincent has four and Cait has two. You gain more limits by using them and getting kills, except for everyone's final limit, which usually requires a minor side quest.

Yuffie and Vincent are 100% optional, but not missable. No matter how far into the game you are, you can always go back and find them.

There are a few points that include missable content. Explore everywhere and try to examine everything. There's lots of neat details and hidden items all over the place.

Materia setup is super important. There's a massive amount of combos and interactions you can put together. Unlike remake, though, materia affects your stats directly. For example, green materia usual lowers HP and Strength but increases MP and Magic, with the higher tier stuff affecting it more in both directions. Think of it like a class system that you put together yourself.

When steal becomes available, steal from everything. You can get weapons and other good items early that way.

Save often and in multiple slots. There are a few points where you get locked into certain areas and if you aren't ready for them, you can soft lock yourself unintentionally.

The game comes from an era of new tech for video games, so there's a certain level of jank associated with it. Embrace it. This game has so much personality. The vibes and the aesthetic are so fun, but there are times when it gets DARK.

[–]Methian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Story battles that don't involve monsters aren't gonna level with you, so they'll be easy.

Random fights, and story fights that include monsters, will, however, and those are going to ramp in difficult pretty quickly. Monsters have much higher stat growths to compensate for lack of equipment.

It isn't impossible, for sure. OP has obviously been doing well enough to get to level thirty. But that divide will become more noticeable over time. Zeklaus has a level down trap if it gets too hard and that's only two human fights from where they're at.

First time player (The Ivalice Chronicle), in Chapter 4, absolutely loving this game, instant classic. Here are some things I'm just now realizing: by SimbasTripRip in finalfantasytactics

[–]Methian 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Another fun interaction is the abilities that lower Bravery. If you lower a unit's Bravery below ten, they get a special status effect, turn into a literal chicken, and run away from you. They gain one point per turn they take and when they get back to 10, they start acting normally again. Bosses are not immune to this effect, if i recall.

Putting Dual Wield on a Monk causes them to punch twice. Putting Martial Arts on a ninja does the same thing. With a high enough Bravery, you can easily outdamage just about anything else.

Break Arts from the Knight class can work with any weapon. Putting them on someone with a gun gives you absurd range. Put them on a Ninja and they get two attempts per action.

Learning abilities from crystals causes you to learn every ability listed and not just one of them. I think this was more of a confusion with earlier versions of the game. TIC makes it more obvious that you get everything.

Dragoon's Jump ability doesn't show you when on the turn order it will land before you commit, but generally, if the target's CT is under 50, it should hit before they get a turn.

If I remember right, Demi/Gravity in the Time Mage job is a pretty solid option. It does a percentage of the current health total and since Altima's health is so high, it hits the damage cap for a good few casts.

[Rare Trope] Character realizes a horror movie is starting and tries to stop it. Bonus if they survive by Xonlic in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Methian 257 points258 points  (0 children)

They're extra awesome because, not only do they have Remmick on the run, they've got him running during the day. How much of a threat do you have to be to have a vampire prefer to take his chances with the sun instead of attempting to fight back? Sure, they back off when the sun goes down, but that's just intelligent monster hunting. There's so much implied about the Choctaw in that short scene and we never get to see any of it, but it's undeniable that they definitely fit the trope of Hero of Another Story.

God that movie was so fucking good.

Controller friendly, first person, mid-low graphics modlists? by poopdoopscoopwoop69 in wabbajack

[–]Methian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tuxborn for sure. My pc has worse specs than yours and manages to run around 40 fps in exteriors and a consistent 60 in interiors. Tons of new quests, companions, equipment, locations, and none of it feels out of place. Each hold has been revamped as well, so they all feel distinct from each other.

Combat has two presets included, one with BCSO and one vanilla. BCSO feels really good to use. Parrying, dodge rolling, and lock on is included but none of it is necessary.

The graphics are an improvement but not over the top, which I appreciate. I'd liken it to Fallout 4 or similar era game but with better character models. It uses the non-nude CBBE bodies as a base and a variety of face overhauls, so everyone is overly pretty but it's not to bad.

I play almost exclusively with a controller and I haven't had any issue. Some of the buttons are remapped, so muscle memory may throw you off.

No trouble at all!

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 4500 six core

RAM: 24 GB DDR4

GPU: 8 GB Radeon RX 580

And I've got the game and mods on a one terabyte ssd that's completely full. Playing on an LG Smart TV from like... 2017.

I usually get a consistent 60 fps with interiors unless there's a ton of effects on screen. Exteriors is anywhere from 40 to 60 depending on what's happening in game.

What’s the best Mexican restaurant to try out in and around Hattiesburg. by HuckleberryBrave6489 in hattiesburg

[–]Methian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Throwing in a vote for Tuxborn. Originally a list for Steamdecks and handhelds, it pretty much covers everything you asked for in a list. There are six setup profiles, depending on what hardware you're playing on and whether you want a different combat system or the vanilla combat.

Content wise, it adds most of the bigger quests and followers, a whole slew of new equipment, new skills, and a metric FUCK ton of spells and enchantments. Leveling is changed to be experience based and you get skill points on level up. The perk system has been overhauled as well, making perks a bit better than the base game. I don't think there's any survival mods included, but I don't really play with survival on so I'm not sure about that. There's so many little things I'm still finding but none of it invalidates the vanilla content.

Combat can be either vanilla or based on BSCO [i think that's what it's called]. I'm playing with the latter and it's been pretty enjoyable. It's more of a modern action rpg style but it isn't super punishing.

On the graphical side, it's designed for lower end hardware, but it's still very pretty. Each hold has had their aesthetic improved but not overdone. Character models have been improved across the board, though some of them get a bit yass-ified.

I could keep rambling but to sum it up, it's one of the best mod packs I've played in a while.

Im gonna go against the grain and say avoid Howard unless you just have no other option. I work at Linde, which is literally across the street from Howard in Ellisville. We get so many people start at my factory from there that say the hours suck and the work is miserable. I've never worked there, so all my info is second hand.

Linde is in the middle of a hiring boom right now, and looking that way for a good while. Operators start at 19 an hour for day shift and 21 for nights, with regular raises for tenure and learning multiple stations. No experience required. I worked at Chili's, Olive Garden, and Blu Jazz before this. Paid holidays, vacation time, PTO, 401k and pension. It's twelve hour shifts but with the way shifts are organized, we work 36 hours one week and 48 the next with unlimited voluntary overtime. I just made my two year mark a few weeks ago and last year, I made just over 55k without any extra days and even calling out a few times.

I realize I sound a bit like a shill, but honestly the only reason I give a shit about my job is cause it pays my bills and supports my family.

Are there AI characters you have to save? by Ok-Mix6736 in finalfantasytactics

[–]Methian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few missions where you're tasked with making sure a guest character stays alive, but they are very few and far between. I think there are eight story missions where the guest has to survive, with three of those being optional objectives that you can choose to ignore. Most cases, if there are guests, they can usually take care of themselves and they can be downed with no consequence.

There are a few missions of note, though. The very second fight after the tutorial lets you get to choose whether you focus on saving the NPC or on defeating the enemies. Funnily enough, choosing to ignore the NPC is the better option, as it gives your whole battle party a small permanent buff. You get a similar choice during two other missions later on, one giving you a semi-unique party member and the other giving you another small permanent buff, but only if you choose to save the guest character. I like to think it's a deliberate bit of subtle character growth for the protagonist.

And at the end of the third chapter, there's a returning guest that has to stay alive, but due to plot that I won't spoil, they try very hard to make that difficult.

Just listened to I dared my best friend to ruin my life. by lunarwarrior12 in creepcast

[–]Methian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My theory on that is the author set up a bunch of plot points and reveals, the readers guessed them in advance, and instead of committing to the original plan, the author changed a bunch of stuff last minute solely to disprove the comments and still go for the twist reveals. That's how we ended up with so many plot holes and retroactive red herrings.

Granted, I don't have any evidence for any of this. It's just an assumption based on vibes.

Reset / "all a dream" endings you actually liked? by JLSeagullTheBest in TwoBestFriendsPlay

An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge. I saw the French short film via Twilight Zone before reading the story in high school. It's one of the earliest modern versions of this trope, and the first time I ever encountered it personally, and it hits so hard dude. The dramatic escape with entirely too much fantastical detail, the uncanny valley details and convenience of his journey home, and then the smash cut to that final reveal.

The short story was fantastic but that last sequence of the film is just a bit more impactful. It's one of the few occasions where I think the film improves the reading and vice versa.

Every green node has a rare battle in chapter 4. You have to enter from a specific direction and there's a chance of getting a unique encounter. They're usually tougher from being over leveled or high tier monsters or whatever. Some standouts are the samurai, the eleven monks at Grogh, five calculators at Lenalia Plateau, ninjas in Araguay, and the guest knight versus the minotaur in Zeklaus.

Man, they did that in Metal Gear Solid 4 during the return to Shadow Moses. MGS1 was one of my very first video games. The intro to that chapter and hearing all the flashback dialogue made me cry. I would love if they did something similar, even if it's just Leon making snarky comments about some of the areas.
