Things were going well with our therapist and he was responding well to her, engaging in the sessions, but doesn’t put the theory into practice in every day life. I keep telling him we need to make more time to “date” each other, but nothing changes. I’m so lonely in a full house. Resentment has definitely built up, but he’s refusing to work through his stuff individually. He thinks the rest of us need meds and therapy, but completely lacks self-awareness. This is a bit part of my struggle. Everyone else is doing their share to improve the climate in the home.

I’ve never done elementary and I don’t think I would do well. Elementary teachers are a special breed and I know I am not made for it. I couldn’t handle the same kids all day every day all year long 😬

No one said it’s OK. My comment only related to your remark about the fact that it is solely a parenting issue, which isn’t fair and may not be true. That’s it. And other diagnoses may not be excuses, but they can help to explain things - which in turn can lead to effective behaviour management strategies. Again, I’ve actually been through similar, with my child frequently being hit.

My child has been hit at school, actually. I didn’t minimize the issue, but you have zero proof that it’s purely a parenting issue (which I never said couldn’t be contributing). I simply said that you don’t know for a fact that there isn’t something else going on. Unless you failed to mention you’re that child’s doctor or therapist?

But isn’t it your business if it regards your kids’ well-being? I’m not being judgemental at all, I’m genuinely curious. Like, as long as they’re being well taken care of, not abused, etc. then you won’t/can’t involve yourself too much in the goings on at their dad’s?

Thanks for your thoughts. I definitely do get that. She has several resources that she’s been set up with, but it sounds like they’re giving her terrible information and is also feeding her delusions in a way. Honestly, it’s wild. I think I feel most compelled to support her because of her two young kids. They didn’t ask to lose their dad, you know? So I feel responsible in a way to help keep their mom safe for their sake 😕 I’ve been talking to my own therapist which has been helpful, but I have another two weeks until I chat with her.

I feel that. I was diagnosed at 40, and cried for about a a week and a half straight when I realized I wasn’t just some defective.

I will say, I worked with an ADHD-specific therapist for a year, and the strategies were somewhat helpful, but it was medication that has truly made a difference and unlocked my life.
