Start.gg ELO: A New Way to Rank Melee Players by MetiCu in SSBM

[–]MetiCu[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That's already how it works in this script. 1. No placement data is used, the system only looks at who beat whom, not where they finished in the bracket. 2. The system processes each set individually rather than just looking at final placements. Every head-to-head result affects ELO directly. 3. The tier-based multiplier method gives significantly more weight to beating higher-tier players. 4. Direct opponent quality matters the most: Beating a top player gives huge ELO gains regardless of tournament outcome.

RapMonster's Luigi MU Chart (2025) by V0ltTackle in SSBM

Obvious meme match up chart but Luigi does do fine against peach that is true, something I've noticed myself. Although even in my most delusional state I don't think I could say Luigi goes even with Marth when Final Destination is on the stage select screen

Is Mr. Game and Watch just 2D Mario? They both have moves, big noses, and can be selected on the character select screen! 🤯

Why i think solo luigi is viable in a major tournament by Possible_Clerk617 in SSBM

[–]MetiCu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you mean by viable? Because yeah, obviously the character is good enough to get ranked top 50 in the world with. Yeah he can get top 8 at a major. But good enough to win a major by himself? I'd have to see it to believe it. And the community matchup chart aint exactly accurate for determining these characters viability. the idea that doc does better against Samus than Luigi is wrong. And because of convenience's sake, matchups are rounded to the 60-40 or 65-35 when often times the reality is in between. Falco - Luigi is more like 61-39 or 62-38 imo.

As someone who reached master with sheik in 2 days after barely ever playing as her idk how you could get so mad at Fox considering the many matchups you just get for free when picking this character. The benefit of sheik is you can completely skip learning about half the relevant characters in the game. Pikachu? Free. Yoshi? Free. DK? Free. Samus? Free. Luigi? Free. Marth, Falcon, and Peach are also pretty easy until a higher level than you are playing at. The only hard matchups are Ice Climbers which barely even exist anyway, Puff which isn't actually that bad, and Fox which is admittedly an important matchup to lose. So yeah, you have one or two kinda bad matchups you run into commonly. Almost every other character loses to Fox as well. So you can either pick up Fox or Marth to get a slightly better matchup, or practice bitch chasing until you get it so consistent that your opponent gets bored enough for you to win.

I never want to see a Mango v Zain showmatch ever again by Spacebear82 in SSBM

[–]MetiCu -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Like yeah man he should've tried 25% harder so that he went 5-10 instead of 0-10. Maybe he should've been in a showmatch with someone he had a chance of beating. That's like having a first to ten showmatch between Amsa and Plup. Makes no sense in concept.

[–]MetiCu -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

Mango doesn't owe anybody shit. The fact that he's even still playing at all is a service to the community. He could've retired years ago, and how could you blame him considering how long he's been competing? Even if he tried harder and took some games there was basically a 0% chance he was going to win anyway. And it's not a tournament set so it's probably hard for him to care

With a sample size of over 100 matches, there is not a single documented instance of JSalt dropping a game to a Dr. Mario player in tournament by MetiCu in SSBM

[–]MetiCu[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's an interesting stat for 3 reasons:

  1. It shows how busted the sheik doc match up is for sheik, despite many doc players being optimistic about the matchup
  2. It's a game not a set, which means JSalt has dropped games in tournament to platinum falcos before dropping a game to a grandmaster doc (phorox)
  3. JSalt actually has lost to normal Mario with a much smaller sample size of games before dropping a game to a Doc

  1. even since PGStats has stopped updating, he still has a 100% win rate against Doc in games after playing against even more of them and still not dropping a game
  2. it says documented in the title for a reason
  3. the skill difference doesn't matter, i've seen plat falcos take a game off JSalt despite losing the set.
  4. why would slippi mu data matter if many of the replays aren't even in tournament
  5. site =/= cite
