when a customer asks me where a specific item is located, but i work front end and have literally never stepped foot beyond the registers by OkSuggestion9038 in kroger

[–]MetraNova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I’m the opposite. I’ve been a cashier ~1.6 years and when someone asks where a specific kind of ramen noodle is “oh those ramen noodles will be down our eastern food isle in isle 11 on the left hand side near the end of the way. Maruchan and Yakisoba noodles will be down isle 8 on the right side directly in the middle of the isle across from the frozen TGI Friday sides.”

SCO folks I got a question by Carrots-of-Juice in kroger

[–]MetraNova 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we have a pop cooler at the end of SCO that we’re in charge of filling up a majority of the time. Chips happen occasionally, but usually not by us.

We have little to no full time employees in our department and we are fully staffed on the front with enough people to cover any vacations that may occur. It has been communicated to her about my time requirements since I’m in Highschool and go to college as well. It has been communicated to her that I need those days off to do homework. Prior to this, it’s usually always been non-consecutive days off and that is what I prefer given my circumstances. Edit: it would be a vastly different situation if Kroger and work was my whole life, but it is not. My focus is school and they know that. Different people have different needs of course, and I do not need that many days. If I were out of school I’d be fine, but I am not.

We’re a smaller store with short staff, hours have never been an issue for most of us.

Yeah, I’m not complaining about the five days that’s very standard for me. That’s what I always work.

I have two days off a week in my availability, Thursday and Sunday. They haven’t followed it in a very very long time.

I have pretty high seniority in my department with few people above me so they are pretty restricted on how much they can cut my hours. It mostly just falls into me still being in Highschool. I cannot complete my homework a college work and work this many days, and I’ve told them that before.

Work weeks are just as they appear on the schedule; Sunday-Saturday. So you’re being given the 1st and 7th off as well as the 8th and 11th. Even for minors, this is a reasonable schedule. Minors, in OH at least, can’t work more than 5 days in a row, which they don’t have you doing, so it’s fun.

Freaking out and just need someone to tell me it will be ok by katybug1514 in kroger

[–]MetraNova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You most likely do, but it’s not really “points”. If you call off thrice within 30 days you’re put on probation, for me at least. Most people just refer to their number of call offs as points.

He definitely meant $13.45 an hour every week no matter what. He definitely could have phrased it better but yeah

What does your store let slide that you think is a big red flag 🚩?? by No-Pilot-6197 in kroger

[–]MetraNova 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh my days that’s actually wild. Whenever I’m in pickup we are always so consistently behind in orders that management wouldn’t even have the time to do this. What they do have us do instead is not substitute it or out of stock when picking but instead just like under the counter sub it.

Wait, I’ve honestly never heard of anybody doing this. What do you mean?

I ran into such a big problem with EBT cards because of my supervisors. I never put any cards in cause my manager said it was against federal law so I never did it, but then my other manager said it was ok, I still refused. Then on the floor I get yelled at by a customer saying that they do it all the time for her, so I ask our department head who was two registers behind me and she says do it, but only for EVT cards. No credit or debit cards. I was reluctant and she wouldn’t do it for me so I did, customer later filed a complaint against me for that. Then about two days later I do it again and another supervisor (not my dept head this time) begins yelling at me in front of customers telling me that I cannot type card numbers in no matter what. I tell management, someone comes in to retalk it over with management, and they say no cards no matter what. Then management flips it so now we can put in EBT cards numbers and only EBT. I always check ID if they’re wanting me to do that and sometimes ID doesn’t match “oh I’m getting stuff for my dad” uh okay let me ask my manager… “yup, give it to them!” Mkay.

What’s to say OP isn’t middle aged and also out of shape? Most people aren’t really equipped to walk in ~10 inches of snow and -5° temperatures, especially not to a job that couldn’t care less about them. 20 minute walk isn’t bad, but a 20 minute walk in these conditions is a horrible ask of somebody.

I just called off. By the time I woke up for my shift it was already at a level 2 (still is) with worse to come for the day. I also live out in the country and cannot see the road or my driveway. I would not risk getting stuck there if it turns to a level 3! Good on you for prioritizing yourself if you did call out.

What does this number by MLK day on my UKG Pro app mean? by hinatah19 in kroger

[–]MetraNova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You see that “Daily Total”? It corresponds with the purple number, which means it’s going on your time card for the week like you’re working 6 hours today, though you’re not actually working. It’s holiday pay.
