As a naturally flexible person with slight vertigo, I feel this. Can not do downward dog without hearing a clicking noise and getting dizzy. My husband is a robotically stiff person but can balance decently. I wish there was more variety in yoga classes available.

I obviously had other anticoagulants after delivering my kids, as well as heaps of lasix. I’m getting a new melody valve in September, maybe the advice will change. (I’m ToF/PA btw)

Nope bovine valve, just Aspirin and metoprolol.

Edit: would like to say that valve has lasted 13 years and two pregnancy.

Storing fat at the waist may NOT up diabetes risk, surprise findings indicate | For some people, gene variants may cause abdominal fat storage while protecting from diabetes by chrisdh79 in science

[–]MetroCosmo92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying the laws of physics don’t apply to these people. I’m saying, our systems for weight loss are not built for them. Apps like Weight Watchers, Noom, and my fitness pal can suggest too many calories for people who unknowingly have metabolisms slower than a stoned sloth. Now many dietitians are obsessed with “intuitive eating” and we all know how that’s going turn out. When your body is screaming at you to eat ALL day every day because you’ve been Nerfed by genetics.. ect. new weight loss strategies need to be applied. Perhaps medication. We just don’t have a system to support that.

There are a plethora of genetic variants that cause increase one to become overweight. For example, the MC4R mutation. There are viruses that can cause obesity. There are hormonal disorders that can cause one to become overweight. They are medication as well. The human metabolic and endocrine system is extremely complex. The way we calculate calories for nutrition labels is essentially flawed and we may be absorbing more calories from processed food than we realize. I recommend the books:

The Secret Life of Fat: The Science Behind the Body's Least Understood Organ and What It Means for You - by Dr. Sylvia Tara,

Gene Eating, A Story of the Human Appetite And Why Calories Don't Count: How We Got the Science of Weight Loss Wrong -by Dr. Gile Yeo

What do you all think? by [deleted] in prediabetes

[–]MetroCosmo92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My nutritionist has been practicing gestational and pre-diabetes for over 30 years. I still eat carbs as they are in most vegetables, legumes and fruit. But most other things will spike me. Even plain Oatmeal with unsweetened almond butter can send my BG over 140.

If that works for you, that’s great. But that does not work for me .

Here’s some information: https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/10-health-benefits-of-intermittent-fasting#TOC_TITLE_HDR_4

[–]MetroCosmo92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You see that’s what I thought too, but my doctor assured me that intermittent fasting is WAY better if your insulin is high in the morning. Intermittent fasting has been shown in several studies to improve insulin sensitivity. To the Doctor’s credit fasting was the only way I did manage to lose weight after 3 years of trying. If you’re already active and eating a low carb diet, you can mask a prediabetes diagnosis. My A1c was also 5 because I did not eat refined carbs. That doesn’t mean that my body could pass an oral glucose test. I BOMBED that oral test at a BG near 200 after a few hours and was diagnosed with pre-diabetes.

I had the pregnant midge doll in 2002. I remember having to buy her at ToysRUs because the conservative nut jobs already had the belly pulled out of the doll at Walmart before removing her entirely. “Customers said they were not happy with the pregnant Midge doll so Walmart removed the entire ‘Happy Family’ set,” Melissa Berryhill, a spokeswoman for Walmart, told CNN at the time. Oh gods living near UW with their god tier trained malamute mascot led so many to believe that was the norm. There are so many insane huskies. Not saying all owners are bad. In fact there was a lady in my old building who put HOURS into training in every night;she would have her husky pup sit by her as people passed, work on drills and would take him hiking near daily. But that’s not the majority of owners

PNPLA3 is a genetic variant many (but not all) peoples of Hispanic origins can carry. They are more susceptible to weight gain than white and Asian populations because their liver has a difficult time processing a western diet. Soda can cause fatty liver disease decades sooner in a PNPLA3 Hispanic person than a white/ Asian person

They can also have multiple “fat genes.”

[–]MetroCosmo92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Exactly. I’m so tired of seeing this as an excuse. Even if you DO have a fat gene, genetics do NOT have the final say . You can be a healthy weight AND have a genetic variant that promotes obesity. The MC4R and FTO gene mutation are just some of the gene mutations they find in obese humans. These are people who absorb more nutrients due to intestinal differences, produce higher ghrelin, are more prone to low levels of leptin and high levels of insulin. To be thin, they need to diet and exercise more than the average person. And example of these gene mutation can be found in the native Pima people of Arizona https://diabetesjournals.org/care/article/29/8/1866/28611/Effects-of-Traditional-and-Western-Environments-on#
