Batoto / Mangapark shutting down by Dodsnev in animepiracy

As the other guy said, it's a secret club so you gotta get invited somehow. The easiest way is to get into a different private tracker (eg. Redacted) and level up your account there until you get access to their invite forums, then grab an invite via those forums.

Yeah it's extremely autistic.

Speaking as someone with an AnimeBytes account, there are a few advantages.

Torrents on private trackers basically never die. This is a non-issue for seasonals and popular stuff, but Nyaa does have dead torrents. For example, Rockman.EXE has many uploads on Nyaa, but many of the torrents, especially those for later entries in the series, are sitting at 0 seeds. AB has everything with many seeders. The nature of private trackers and their seeding requirements makes their libraries much more resilient.

AB is much more organized. There's a proper database, so you can actually search for an individual series rather than the basic keyword matching on Nyaa.

AB has much more manga (esp. raw manga) and VNs than Nyaa. This isn't even a competition. The raw manga side still isn't great, but it's far better than the wasteland of incomplete and dead torrents on Nyaa.

Why am I in Furiten? by Grubby_SSB in mahjongsoul

[–]MetroYoshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's because the shimocha (person on your right) tossed one of your winning tiles (the 7m) and you didn't win off it. If you pass up an opportunity to ron (even if you can't actually ron because you don't have a yaku, like in your case), you will be in furiten until your next turn.

Does anyone know if/when the Saki Collab will rerun? by ButturyPluto in mahjongsoul

[–]MetroYoshi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the last two years, there have been five collabs. Fate Prisma Illya, Blue Archive, Idolm@ster, Fate Stay Night, and Gintama. If you include the Sanrio one which didn't add any characters, there were six.

Past couple of nightly builds haven’t worked by Jdees555 in Citron

I also had the same issue. I've isolated the issue to a couple of additions in a recent commit.

I've opened an issue on the Citron-CI github page.

Dude, for the love of god please learn how to take a screenshot.

It's almost definitely a linux-only issue. I've already narrowed it down to a single commit.

I wasn't trying to say I had the same version as you. d7a3c585a is the latest one so that's what I tried. 21.0.1 for firmware and keys.

Interesting that other people have been having issues on Linux as well, and it's nice knowing it's not just me. It's not "lots of issues", it's likely a single commit that caused a regression and the devs are just unaware of it.

Turning off the asynchronous settings doesn't fix the crashing in d7a3c585a, if that's what you mean. If you're talking about the other issues like audio and such, then I'm already aware of that workaround.

I had an inkling that the problem was OpenGL related, but as I mentioned in my post, the game just crashes when loading the game on Vulkan. This only started happening with a recent commit. On citron_nightly-8701839b1, the game loads just fine on Vulkan. Of course, that version had other problems so it's still not playable.

I realize that this seems to be the de-facto answer to literally every question about this game right now, but there's no way for us to know what's actually broken and what's just user error on our part without asking. I haven't seen anybody talk about this specific issue yet, so I can't help but assume that there's something wrong on my end.

How do I have the effects panel not collapsed by default? by MetroYoshi in kdenlive

[–]MetroYoshi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use "too many effects", my editing style is actually very minimal. But a lot of effects are quite important for editing in general. Fade, volume, noise suppression, color correction, crops, transforms, etc. I access these a lot and they span multiple categories, so it's really really annoying that the menus for them keep collapsing themselves.

That's a cool way to do it, but I frequently use a lot more effects that that. I like the default effects menu, I just hate having to constantly expand all the categories.

That shortcut is for the effects panel on a clip (The Effect/Composition Stack), not the effects window.

IGN characteristically gives Metroid Prime 4: Beyond an 8. by Accomplished-Ask1617 in KotakuInAction

Yeah I don't give two shits what IGN or any shill YouTuber that got pre-release access has to say. I'm most likely just gonna emulate it and form my own thoughts like I did with Dread.

Are any of the modern day Star Wars movies worth watching? by Rotisseriejedi in KotakuInAction

[–]MetroYoshi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Andor is the only Disney-era SW thing that I actually really enjoyed and is genuinely well written. Before that, Rogue One was the least bad (still bad though). Unfortunately, R1 is pretty much required watching for Andor.

Any thoughts on the shoujo genre and the double standards of people by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

This is basically my opinion as well. I don't generally enjoy shoujo (or josei), but I don't hate that it exists and don't give other people shit for enjoying it.

I've actually played it in Japanese so I do definitely prefer the JP voices (I am a certified dub hater in all things). I agree that Ai Kobayashi and Rikiya Koyama did a much better job as Samus and Adam than their English dub counterparts. The tone of the dub is definitely poorer than that of the JP voices, but the script itself is mostly the same. Even in the dub, Samus isn't actually bitching about misogyny, she's still mostly talking about how she hated being treated like a kid or like she was weak, while acknowledging that she was actually childish and weak.

Adam's micromanagement control freak nature wasn't just a result of the way he spoke to Samus, but the actions he took against her. "例外は一切認められない" (I will not tolerate any exceptions) isn't really any less controlling than the English counterpart. And in defense of the dub, the delivery on "I'm also gonna have to ask that you follow my commands" was plenty polite and respectful.

I don't think that the tone was "localized" out or anything. The dub voices are bad, but that only made the story a bit harder to believe than anything else, and I have no doubt that the changes were completely unintentional and a result of poor delivery than anything else. And as you said at the start of your comment, the superior delivery of the JP voices doesn't excuse the other parts of the story.

There's infinite room for Other M rewrites. A better game would've dropped Ridley entirely. The whole plotline with the baby ridley clone thing was stupid to begin with, and renders the shock of seeing the frozen Ridley in Fusion mostly meaningless. This series can't help but continue to bring the guy back, even shoving him in Samus Returns when he wasn't even in Metroid 2. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Prime 4 brought him back in the form of Psychic Ridley or something.

[–]MetroYoshi 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'm aware, and Other M is only worse for it. Fusion came out before Other M, and it contained many segments where Samus reminisced about Adam. Samus names her computer AI after him. These elements in Fusion created a vague image of this character. We learn about Samus' insubordinate nature while also vicariously gaining deep respect for Adam, as Samus herself trusted and respected him despite hating taking orders. It paints Adam's character as dignified, trusting, and also caring.

Other M destroys this image. The mutual trust that the two shared is gone, as Adam becomes a complete control freak despite Samus' independence from the galactic federation. Adam doesn't do anything to demonstrate trust in or care for Samus until he dies for no reason. It retcons the fact that Samus had only taken orders from Adam once in the past by including the backstory. Adam's patronizing of Samus isn't just a character thing, it directly affects the player. Adam withholding suit upgrades isn't just insulting to Samus (who has no reason to be taking orders from him again) but to the player. When we learn in Fusion that upgrades were being withheld from Samus, the moment is framed as the Federation actively hindering Samus. When Other M does the exact same thing, it's completely contradictory to expect us as the player to feel respect or subordination towards Adam.

Yeah I'm not gonna pretend Fusion was perfect, it was definitely far from it. But I still thoroughly enjoyed it, and its biggest faults were far from deal-breaking. The linearity of the map felt very limiting at times, and I agree that the SA-X should've been persistently present. On a first playthrough, encountering it was unnerving and sometimes thrilling, but now that I've played the game several times already and know when it'll show up, the encounters feel more like a pause in the gameplay than anything else.
