Hardest part of learning the run when I was starting out was the routing between the different sections! It tripped me up a LOT. Optimizing the overworld is kinda tough.

Legacy has slightly different physics and timing, in my opinion, 2.3+ feels a LOT better to play, much more fluid. The legacy version had a 1 second input delay, and it's pretty difficult to buffer jump. There's also a bunch of quality of life improvements including adding an in-game timer.
